Parliament – Budget Session Resumes With Focus on Key Reports

Parliament – The second phase of the Parliament Budget session resumes today, with the Lok Sabha set to address a range of important legislative and procedural matters. The day’s agenda includes Question Hour, the presentation of official documents, and the submission of various parliamentary committee reports. Lawmakers are also expected to deliberate on pending government business carried forward from earlier sittings.

Parliament budget session key reports

Routine Business and Pending Legislative Work

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha will begin with the customary Question Hour, allowing members to raise queries on government functioning. This will be followed by the tabling of official papers by several Union Ministers. Representatives from key ministries—including Culture, Education, Finance, Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Corporate Affairs—are scheduled to present documents related to their respective departments.

In addition to routine work, the House is likely to take up unfinished legislative items from the revised agenda of the previous session. This indicates that bills and discussions that remained incomplete earlier may now be considered for debate and decision.

Women’s Safety Report to Be Presented

A significant highlight of the day’s proceedings will be the presentation of a report focusing on women’s safety in the digital space. The Fourth Report of the Committee on the Empowerment of Women for the year 2025–26 will be tabled in the House.

This report addresses the growing concern of cyber crimes targeting women and examines measures related to online safety. It covers areas under the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, reflecting a coordinated approach to tackling digital threats. The report is expected to provide insights into existing challenges and recommend steps to strengthen safeguards for women in cyberspace.

Update on Housing Scheme Implementation

Another important document to be laid before the Lok Sabha is a statement from the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs. This statement outlines the government’s response to earlier recommendations made by the committee regarding the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

The report evaluates how effectively the housing scheme has been carried out and highlights the progress made in providing affordable housing in urban areas. The government’s follow-up actions, as detailed in the statement, will offer clarity on improvements and adjustments made in response to the committee’s observations.

Prime Minister’s Statement in Rajya Sabha

Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address members on developments related to the ongoing situation in West Asia. His statement is likely to cover multiple aspects, including the implications of the conflict for India’s energy security.

The Prime Minister had already spoken on the issue in the Lok Sabha earlier this week, describing the situation in the region as concerning. He also reassured the House that the government has taken steps to ensure the availability of essential resources.

Focus on Farmers and Supply Stability

Amid concerns that geopolitical tensions could disrupt imports, particularly of fertilisers, the government has emphasized its commitment to protecting farmers. The Prime Minister noted that adequate arrangements have been made to maintain supply and prevent any adverse impact on agricultural activities.

He reiterated that the government has consistently worked to shield farmers from the effects of global crises, ensuring that domestic needs are met without passing on additional burdens to the agricultural sector.

As Parliament reconvenes, the session is expected to balance routine legislative work with discussions on pressing national and international issues, reflecting the broader priorities of governance and public welfare.
