Crime – Mother and Four Young Daughters Found Dead in Sagar Village
Crime – A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, where a 28-year-old woman was found dead after her four young daughters were discovered in a village well. Authorities believe the woman died by suicide after allegedly pushing the children into the well, though investigators are still working to determine what led to the tragedy.

Children Discovered in Village Well
The incident occurred in Khamaria village, which falls under the Kesli police station area in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday, villagers reported the bodies of four sisters in a nearby well. The children were between five months and seven years old.
Soon after the grim discovery, police began searching for their mother, Savita Lodhi. Officers later found her body inside the family’s house. She had reportedly died by hanging, indicating suicide, according to preliminary findings from investigators.
Local authorities secured the area and began collecting evidence while sending the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Police Begin Investigation into Circumstances
Sagar district police superintendent Vikas Kumar Sahwal said early findings suggest that the mother may have thrown her daughters into the well before ending her own life. However, he emphasized that investigators are examining all possible circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police teams are speaking with relatives, neighbors, and other villagers to understand the family’s recent situation. Officials have not yet confirmed what may have triggered such an extreme step.
The case has been registered and an inquiry is underway to determine whether there were underlying personal, social, or economic pressures that might have contributed to the tragedy.
Husband Working Outside the State
According to officials, Savita Lodhi’s husband, Chandrabhan Lodhi, had been working as a migrant labourer in Gujarat for about one and a half years. He was informed about the incident and is currently returning to the village.
During his absence, Savita was reportedly living in the family home with her father-in-law and the four children. Investigators are now gathering details about the family’s living conditions and relationships to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Authorities have also spoken to extended family members as part of the ongoing investigation.
Possible Family Stress Under Examination
Police said they are also looking into whether family tensions could have played a role in the case. One of the angles being examined is whether the couple’s relationship had been affected by the birth of four daughters.
Investigators cautioned that no conclusions have been reached yet and that all aspects of the case are being carefully reviewed. Officials stressed that the investigation will rely on evidence and statements from those familiar with the family.
Another Similar Tragedy Reported Earlier
The incident in Sagar occurred just a day after another tragic case was reported in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh’s Nimar region. In that case, a woman allegedly threw her two young sons, aged two and four, into a well and then jumped in with her 15-day-old infant.
Reports indicated that the woman managed to climb out of the well using a rope ladder that was already there. However, all three children drowned.
Preliminary investigation in that case suggested the woman might have been struggling with postpartum depression, which can affect mental health after childbirth and make daily responsibilities difficult to manage.
Authorities Stress Importance of Support Systems
While the two cases are unrelated, officials say both incidents highlight the importance of social and family support systems, particularly for mothers dealing with emotional or psychological challenges.
Police and local administration have urged communities to remain alert to signs of distress among family members and to encourage individuals facing difficulties to seek help.
The investigation in the Sagar case is continuing, and authorities say further details will emerge after forensic reports and additional questioning of witnesses.
