TrainAccident – Family of Three Killed Near Pakur Station
TrainAccident – A devastating railway accident claimed three lives in Jharkhand’s Pakur district on Tuesday evening, leaving a young child as the sole surviving member of the immediate family.

The tragedy unfolded near Nagarnabi railway station when a high-speed train struck the victims as they attempted to cross the tracks. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 7:10 pm on the down line section of the route.
Victims Identified by Authorities
The deceased have been identified as Chandan Sardar, 35, his wife Rumpa Sardar, 29, and their three-year-old daughter, Arpita Sardar. The family lived in Kalitalla Mohalla under the jurisdiction of the Nagar police station in Pakur.
According to relatives, the trio had been returning home after visiting the home of Chandan’s sister. While crossing the railway tracks near the station, they were hit by the Vande Bharat Express, which was passing through the area at considerable speed.
The force of the collision was severe. Officials at the scene reported that the bodies were found in a grievously damaged condition on the tracks, underscoring the intensity of the impact.
Child Survives as Sole Immediate Family Member
Family members said the couple’s eight-year-old son was not with them at the time of the incident. He had remained at home and is now the only surviving member of the nuclear family. The loss has left extended relatives in shock, as neighbors gathered outside the family’s residence late into the night upon hearing the news.
Local residents described the area near the tracks as frequently used by pedestrians despite repeated advisories about railway safety. Some community members expressed concern over the risks posed by crossing tracks outside designated areas.
Railway Officials Outline Timeline
The Railway Protection Force confirmed that the accident took place when the train was moving along the down line section near Nagarnabi station. Officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP) were alerted shortly afterward.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Shibu Sardar of the GRP outpost stated that information about the incident was received late Tuesday night. The accident reportedly occurred between poles numbered 145/38 and 145/40, a stretch close to the station premises.
Law enforcement personnel reached the site to secure the area and begin procedural formalities. Railway authorities coordinated with local police to manage the situation and document details of the incident.
Legal Formalities and Next Steps
Officials said that the bodies would be handed over to the family members after completing mandatory legal procedures, including post-mortem examinations. An investigation is underway to establish the precise sequence of events leading up to the accident.
Railway authorities routinely advise against crossing tracks except at designated crossings and foot overbridges. Trespassing on railway property remains a significant safety concern across several regions, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas where informal crossings are common.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with unauthorized track crossing, especially near high-speed train corridors. The Vande Bharat Express, known for its rapid transit between major destinations, travels at substantial speeds, leaving little room for reaction in emergency situations.
As the community in Pakur mourns the loss of three lives from a single household, the focus now shifts to supporting the surviving child and ensuring that safety awareness measures are reinforced in the area.
