AssamPolitics – Senior BJP Leaders Offer Prayers at Kamakhya Temple After Assam Ceremony
AssamPolitics – Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the historic Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on Tuesday shortly after attending the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The two senior BJP leaders reached the famous shrine located on the Nilachal Hills and offered prayers to Goddess Kamakhya following the official oath-taking event held earlier at the Khanapara ground in the city. The ceremony drew the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers from several NDA-governed states.
Security Tightened Around Temple Premises
Authorities strengthened security arrangements around the temple complex due to the arrival of high-profile political leaders. A large number of devotees and local visitors gathered near the premises to witness the visit of the dignitaries.
Temple priests welcomed the leaders according to long-standing customs and conducted traditional rituals inside the shrine. Officials ensured crowd management measures remained in place throughout the visit to avoid disruptions for pilgrims and visitors.
The Kamakhya Temple remains one of the most respected spiritual destinations in the country and holds a special place in Hindu religious traditions. Located above the banks of the Brahmaputra River, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, considered a form of Goddess Shakti.
Kamakhya Temple Holds Deep Religious Importance
The ancient temple is widely regarded as an important Shakti Peetha and is especially known for its association with Tantric worship practices. According to Hindu beliefs, the shrine represents feminine energy and spiritual power.
Every year, the temple attracts thousands of pilgrims from different parts of India as well as international visitors. Among the most significant religious events held there is the Ambubachi Mela, an annual gathering that celebrates divine feminine power and draws massive participation from devotees and saints.
The festival is considered one of the largest spiritual congregations in northeastern India and plays a major role in promoting religious tourism in Assam.
Himanta Biswa Sarma Begins Second Consecutive Term
Earlier in the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second straight term after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured another major victory in the Assembly elections.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during a grand ceremony in Guwahati. The event witnessed the attendance of several prominent BJP and NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The latest electoral success marked the third consecutive term for the BJP-led alliance in Assam, further strengthening the party’s position in the northeastern region.
Four Ministers Also Sworn Into Cabinet
Along with Sarma, four other leaders were sworn in as ministers in the new state cabinet. Those inducted included former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora, United People’s Party Liberal leader Charan Boro, and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog.
Political observers view the cabinet formation as an attempt to maintain regional representation while continuing the alliance partnership among NDA constituents in Assam.
The swearing-in ceremony and subsequent temple visit remained among the key political and religious developments in the state on Tuesday, drawing attention from supporters, party workers, and devotees alike.
