Accident – Four Young Men Killed After Car Plunges Into Canal in Mathura

Accident –  A devastating car accident in Mathura district has left four young men dead after their vehicle veered off the road and fell into a canal late Tuesday night.-

Mathura canal car accident deaths

Four friends lost their lives when the car they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a canal in the Magorra police station limits of Mathura district, officials confirmed on Wednesday. The victims, all in their early twenties, were heading to a wedding celebration in Deeg, Rajasthan, when the tragedy occurred.

Sudden Turn Leads to Fatal Crash

According to police, the group had set out from the Mahavan area and were driving towards Deeg via the Govardhan bypass. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat said the accident happened at a sharp bend along the route. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which first rammed into a cemented structure near the roadside before overturning into a canal nearly six metres deep.

The impact and subsequent fall proved fatal. By the time help arrived, all four occupants had succumbed to their injuries.

Locals Attempt Rescue Before Authorities Arrive

Residents living near the accident site rushed to the canal after hearing the crash. Witnesses attempted to assist the trapped passengers, but the depth of the water and the position of the overturned vehicle made immediate rescue difficult.

Police teams and local administrative officials reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. A crane was brought in to retrieve the submerged vehicle. After significant effort, the car was lifted out of the canal, but none of the occupants could be saved.

Victims Identified, Bodies Sent for Examination

Authorities identified three of the deceased as Rahul, 23, Amit, 22, and Mohit, 22. The fourth victim, also a close friend from the same locality, was travelling with them to attend the wedding function in Deeg.

All four were residents of the Mahavan police station area in Mathura district. Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination as part of the legal process.

SP Rawat stated that a detailed inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash. Investigators are examining whether overspeeding, poor visibility, or road conditions contributed to the accident.

Investigation Underway

Officials said preliminary findings point to the sharp curve as a critical factor in the incident. However, authorities have not ruled out other possible causes. The vehicle’s mechanical condition and road safety measures in the area will also be reviewed as part of the probe.

The accident has once again highlighted concerns about road safety on bypass stretches and rural routes, where sharp turns and inadequate warning signs can pose risks to motorists, especially during night travel.

Family members of the deceased were informed shortly after the recovery operation concluded. The sudden loss has left the local community in shock, as the four young men had been preparing to attend what was meant to be a celebratory occasion.

Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation, police said.
