Heatwave – Delhi Government Deploys Mobile Relief Units Across Capital

Heatwave –  Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday launched 13 mobile heat relief units from the Delhi Secretariat as the national capital continues to face intense heatwave conditions. The initiative is aimed at providing immediate assistance to people struggling with soaring temperatures across different parts of the city.

Delhi heatwave relief units deployed

The specially equipped vehicles will offer several essential services to residents, including clean drinking water, ORS packets, first aid facilities, cotton towels and protective caps. Officials said the mobile units have been introduced to reduce the health risks associated with extreme heat exposure, especially for outdoor workers, commuters and vulnerable groups.

Government Releases Heat Preparedness Guidelines

Along with the launch of the relief vehicles, the Chief Minister also unveiled a Heat Action Plan booklet designed to spread awareness about heatwave safety and emergency preparedness. The booklet contains important guidance on staying safe during periods of extreme weather and explains preventive steps citizens should follow to avoid heat-related illnesses.

The Delhi government has urged residents to remain hydrated, avoid stepping out unnecessarily during afternoon hours and take precautions while travelling in direct sunlight. Authorities also reminded citizens that emergency assistance is available through the 112 helpline.

Focus on Summer Water Supply Management

Earlier this week, Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to review the city’s water management plans for the summer season. Senior officials discussed the status of ongoing projects and assessed arrangements for maintaining stable water distribution during peak demand periods.

During the review, the Chief Minister directed departments to ensure there are no disruptions in water supply and instructed officials to respond quickly to public complaints. She also warned against negligence and emphasised accountability in handling water-related issues during the summer months.

According to officials present at the meeting, the government is working not only on immediate relief measures but also on long-term solutions to address recurring drinking water shortages in Delhi. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma and senior representatives of the Delhi Jal Board attended the discussion.

Water Treatment Plants Directed to Operate Fully

The administration has strengthened monitoring systems to maintain balanced water supply across the city as temperatures continue to rise. Major water treatment facilities, including Sonia Vihar, Bhagirathi, Chandrawal, Wazirabad, Haiderpur, Nangloi, Okhla, Bawana and Dwarka plants, have been instructed to function at maximum operational capacity.

Officials are also coordinating with the Haryana government to keep track of ammonia levels in raw water sources, which is considered important for uninterrupted functioning of treatment plants. Areas already experiencing water shortages have been identified, and targeted arrangements are being made to improve supply in those locations.

The Delhi government’s latest measures come at a time when the city is witnessing rising temperatures and increasing pressure on public utilities. Authorities said additional monitoring and rapid response systems are being kept in place to minimise difficulties for residents during the ongoing heatwave period.
