BungalowProbe – Delhi Government Seeks Update on Kejriwal Residence Cases
BungalowProbe – The Delhi government has directed the Public Works Department to furnish a comprehensive report on all pending and ongoing matters linked to the official residence once occupied by former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The request covers the current status of inquiries, actions taken so far, and developments over the past year.

Government Calls for Detailed Status Report
According to officials familiar with the development, senior functionaries from the Public Works Department met the Delhi chief secretary last week to review issues connected to the government bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road. The discussions focused on vigilance proceedings and the Central Bureau of Investigation case tied to the property’s renovation.
Sources said the chief minister’s office has specifically asked for an update on how far the investigations have progressed, which officials were suspended in connection with the matter, and whether any measures are being considered against officers who have since retired. The move is seen as part of a broader effort to compile a clear record of actions taken so far.
A senior PWD official confirmed that much of the documentation is being coordinated with the Central Public Works Department, which is handling aspects of the case. “The government has requested detailed information, and we are in the process of submitting the required records,” the official said.
Audit Conducted After Kejriwal Vacated Residence
In 2024, after Arvind Kejriwal stepped down from office and vacated the residence, the Public Works Department carried out an extensive review of the bungalow’s interiors. Officials said the inspection aimed to assess work undertaken during the renovation phase and verify expenditure details.
The property was subsequently taken over by the department following the transition from Kejriwal to his successor, Atishi. Administrative control of the premises now rests with the concerned authorities, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
Origins of the Vigilance Inquiry
The controversy surrounding the residence dates back to 2022, when Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a vigilance probe into allegations of procedural lapses and rising costs during the renovation of the property. The inquiry was tasked with examining whether established norms were followed and whether public funds were used appropriately.
Over time, the scope of scrutiny widened. In 2024, departmental proceedings were initiated against certain PWD officials believed to have been associated with the renovation process. Some of them were placed under suspension while the investigation continued.
CBI Investigation Underway
The matter is now being examined by the Central Bureau of Investigation, which took charge of the case after a complaint was filed by Vijender Gupta, who was then Leader of the Opposition and currently serves as the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly. The agency is reviewing documents, expenditure records, and administrative approvals related to the refurbishment of the bungalow.
Officials have indicated that the investigative process is ongoing and that further steps will depend on the findings of the central agency. The Delhi government’s latest request for detailed updates suggests that it intends to closely monitor the progress of both departmental and external investigations.
As the inquiries continue, authorities maintain that all actions will be guided by procedural norms and applicable regulations. The focus, officials said, remains on ensuring accountability and transparency in matters involving public expenditure.
