Weather – Morning Fog and Rising Temperatures Across Tamil Nadu
Weather – Several parts of Tamil Nadu are set to experience foggy mornings and gradually increasing daytime temperatures over the coming days, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.

Fog Likely in Northern and Western Districts
The Regional Meteorological Centre has indicated that moderate fog is expected to form in a number of districts, particularly in the northern and western belts of the state. From now until February 12, areas such as Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Dindigul, and the Nilgiris may see mist during the early morning hours.
The reduced visibility during dawn could slow down traffic movement, especially along highways and in hilly stretches. Authorities have urged motorists to remain alert while driving in the early hours and to use appropriate safety measures when navigating through fog-prone routes.
Light Mist Expected Around Chennai
Chennai and its surrounding districts — Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram — are also likely to witness mild to moderate mist in the mornings. While dense fog is not anticipated in the capital, isolated areas could experience brief spells of reduced visibility around sunrise.
In Chennai, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy over the next few days. The city is unlikely to receive rainfall during this period, and the fog is expected to be limited to the early hours before clearing as the sun rises.
Dry Spell to Continue Across the Region
Despite the presence of fog in certain pockets, the broader weather pattern across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal is forecast to remain dry until at least February 14. The Meteorological Department has stated that there are no signs of significant rainfall activity in the immediate outlook.
Stable atmospheric conditions are expected to dominate, contributing to clear skies for most of the day across the state. Such patterns are common during this part of the season, when moisture near the surface combines with cooler nighttime temperatures to produce morning mist, even as the overall climate remains dry.
Gradual Rise in Daytime Temperatures
Alongside the fog, residents may also notice a steady increase in daytime heat. Forecasters predict that maximum temperatures in certain districts could rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius by February 12. This could result in warmer afternoons, particularly in interior regions.
Weather experts explain that clear skies during the day allow more direct sunlight to reach the surface, leading to higher temperatures. At night, however, the absence of cloud cover enables faster cooling, which in turn creates favourable conditions for fog formation during the early morning hours.
Health Advisory for Vulnerable Groups
With warmer afternoons on the horizon, health officials have advised people to take basic precautions. Residents are encouraged to drink sufficient water, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, and wear appropriate clothing to cope with rising temperatures.
Special care has been recommended for elderly individuals, children, and those engaged in outdoor work. Exposure to both early morning chill and midday heat could affect vulnerable groups if adequate precautions are not taken.
As the week progresses, most parts of Tamil Nadu can expect misty mornings followed by clear and increasingly warm days. While no major weather disturbances are predicted, commuters are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and plan travel accordingly during fog-prone hours.
