PropertyDispute – Former MLA and Daughter Face Police Probe Over Property Allegations
PropertyDispute – Former Trinamool Congress leader and ex-legislator Atin Ghosh, along with his daughter Priyadarshini Ghosh, has been called by police for questioning following allegations linked to an alleged property takeover and financial misconduct. Investigators have initiated action after a complaint accused the duo of unlawfully acquiring a valuable property and causing significant monetary loss to its owner.

Police Begin Inquiry Into Complaint
According to law enforcement officials, both Atin Ghosh and his daughter have been asked to appear before investigators later this week. The inquiry stems from accusations that they were involved in a transaction that allegedly resulted in a financial loss of around Rs 50 lakh to the complainant.
The case originated from a complaint lodged by a hotel owner, who claimed that his property was taken over for a substantially lower amount than its actual market value. While the alleged incident initially fell under the jurisdiction of Pragati Maidan police station, the matter was subsequently transferred to Bidhannagar North police station for further investigation.
FIR Includes Multiple Serious Charges
Police officials confirmed that a formal FIR has been registered against Atin Ghosh and Priyadarshini Ghosh. The complaint includes allegations related to land grabbing, intimidation, cheating and criminal conspiracy, among other charges.
Investigators are currently examining documents, transaction details and statements connected to the disputed property. Officials have indicated that the inquiry remains in its preliminary stages and further action will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation.
Dispute Centers Around Metropolitan Property
According to information gathered during the investigation, the disputed asset is a three-storey bungalow situated on approximately two-and-a-half kathas of land in Kolkata’s Metropolitan area near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Sources familiar with the matter claim that the property’s current market value is estimated at nearly Rs 4 crore. However, the complainant has alleged that only Rs 50 lakh was paid in connection with the transaction, leading to accusations that the property was acquired at a fraction of its actual worth.
Atin Ghosh Says No Notice Received
Despite reports of the summons, Atin Ghosh stated on Wednesday that he had not yet received any official notice from the police regarding the investigation.
The former politician remains a known figure in West Bengal politics. He represented the Kashipur-Belgachia Assembly constituency after winning the 2021 state elections. In the most recent Assembly contest, he again contested from the same seat but was defeated by BJP candidate Ritesh Tiwari.
Daughter Rejects Allegations
Responding to the accusations, Priyadarshini Ghosh strongly denied the claims and defended her father’s public record. Speaking to media representatives, she asserted that attempts were being made to damage his reputation and maintained that the family would not accept responsibility for what she described as baseless allegations.
She also indicated that legal action could be pursued against those making the accusations, including the possibility of filing a defamation case.
Political and Legal Attention on the Case
The development comes amid a broader trend of investigations involving political leaders in West Bengal following complaints related to corruption, extortion and other alleged offences. Several public representatives have faced legal scrutiny in recent years as authorities examined various allegations.
Commenting on the latest case, state minister Agnimitra Paul said that the complaint would be examined through due legal process and that a proper investigation would be conducted based on the allegations placed before authorities.
As the probe continues, investigators are expected to question the parties involved and review all available evidence before determining the next course of action.
