JD Vance: Following the deadly incident in Minneapolis, defends ICE

JD Vance: In defense of an ICE officer who shot and killed a woman during an immigration enforcement activity in Minneapolis, US Vice President JD Vance called the murder “a tragedy,” said the officer acted in self-defense, and accused Democrats and certain media outlets of inciting animosity against federal officials.

Vance claimed the incident was “an attack on federal law enforcement” while speaking at the White House on Thursday. He also insisted that Renee Good, the woman, “aimed her car at a law enforcement officer and pressed on the accelerator.”

Vance, 41, said that the events were being misreported by critics. “That is the way that many people in the corporate media have put this attack over the last 24 hours,” he said after seeing a CNN headline that read, “Outrage after ICE officer kills US citizen in Minneapolis.”

He maintained that the officer was justified in fearing for his life. Vance said, “That very ICE officer almost lost his life after being dragged by a car six months ago and suffering 33 stitches in his leg.” “So you think he might be a little sensitive about someone hitting him with a car?”

According to Vance, Good wasn’t a passive observer. He said, “That woman was there to obstruct a legitimate law enforcement operation in the United States of America. She was attempting to ram this guy with his — with her car.” He retaliated and protected himself.

“The simple fact is what you see is what you get in this case,” Vance stated in response to a question about whether his words may taint an investigation. “You have a woman who is trying to obstruct a legitimate law enforcement operation, nobody debates that,” he said.

He stated that rather of confronting agents, public disagreements about immigration policy should be settled democratically. “We’re not — look, we’re not going to give in to terrorism on this,” he said, adding that encouraging people to voice their concerns about immigration policy at the polls is the best way to cool the temperature.

“You have a federal law enforcement official engaging in federal law enforcement action,” Vance said, rebutting state-level participation in the inquiry. That is a federal matter. “That guy is protected by absolute immunity,” he continued.

The government “stands fully behind the heroic men and women of ICE,” according to White House Press Secretary Karolina Leavitt, who also linked the Minnesota case to “a larger sinister left-wing movement” against federal law enforcement. According to her, ICE agents are dealing with “an 8,000 percent increase in death threats, a 1,200 percent increase in assaults, and a 3,200 percent increase in vehicle rammings.”

According to Leavitt, DHS will keep up its operations in Minnesota for both immigration enforcement and the investigation of suspected fraud. According to her, the administration has “doubled the number of US attorneys in the DOJ office in Minneapolis,” “activated thousands of federal agents,” and “surged resources to hold fraudsters accountable.”

Vance said that the Democratic leadership in Minnesota was encouraging misconduct and instability. He said that the governor had “enabled fraud and maybe in fact, has participated in fraud,” calling Tim Walz a farce.

A government organization called Immigration and Customs Enforcement is in charge of implementing immigration laws inside the United States, including locating, apprehending, and deporting those who are in the nation illegally. For years, it has been a contentious issue in US politics, especially in relation to deportations and the extent of government authority.
