New Year: 25,000 police officers are on high alert in Chennai for the Eve festivities

New Year: More than 25,000 police officers will be stationed around Chennai and its suburbs on New Year’s Eve to guarantee a secure and incident-free celebration.

Drones, CCTV surveillance, and special monitoring teams will assist the comprehensive security plan, which will include officers from the Greater Chennai Police, Tambaram City Police, and Avadi City Police.

Nearly 19,000 police officers would be stationed inside the Greater Chennai Police boundaries, while 3,000 officers will be stationed in the Tambaram and Avadi police jurisdictions, according to government sources. Additionally, 1,500 Home Guards will help in emergency response, traffic control, and crowd management.

The public is being strongly advised by police officials to comply with security officers and rigorously follow safety regulations. Preventing intoxicated driving, careless riding, and disruptive behavior during festivities has received particular attention.

Alcohol-serving establishments have been cautioned to protect female customers, and it is completely forbidden for children to enter these establishments.

Beaches in Chennai and its surrounding areas, including as Marina, Santhome, Elliots, Neelangarai, Panaiyur, and Kovalam, would be off-limits to the public from Wednesday night until January 1, 2026, as part of safety precautions.

Additionally, it is very forbidden to set off firecrackers in both public and private settings. Prior authorization from the police and relevant municipal authorities is required for residents organizing parties in apartment buildings, particularly when using loudspeakers.

More than 500 car checkpoints have been set up around Chennai, Tambaram, and Avadi to prevent drunk driving and racing. There will be 60 specialized teams monitoring traffic infractions and drunk driving inside the municipal boundaries of Tambaram, while 425 vehicle inspection teams will be on duty in Chennai alone. More two-wheeled police squads will help and improve visibility in high-risk zones.

Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Police have increased coastal security in collaboration with the Coast Guard and Marina Beach Lifeguards.

In order to manage situations, warning signs have been put up and ambulances staffed by medical professionals will be positioned close to busy areas.
