Kerala mob lynching case: Chief Minister Vijayan promises the Chhattisgarh man’s family justice
Kerala mob lynching case: On Monday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan promised the family of Ram Narayan, the migrant worker who was killed by a mob at Attappallam in Walayar, that justice would be served and that everyone accountable for the atrocity that rocked Kerala would face severe consequences.
The Chief Minister stated in a statement on Monday that a special investigative team headed by the Palakkad Superintendent of Police is looking into the matter and has been instructed to look into every facet of the occurrence and take the necessary legal action.
The government will also take the situation into account and make sure the family that lost a loved one receives fair recompense.
CM Vijayan called the incident intolerable, emphasized the need for vigilance to avoid a repeat, and stated such actions damage Kerala’s reputation as a progressive society.
The Chief Minister’s comments followed the release of alarming information from the remand report that exposed the severe mistreatment meted out to Ram Narayan, a Chhattisgarh native who had traveled to Kerala in pursuit of employment.
The report claims that the accused subjected him to hours of continuous violence with an obvious and deliberate intent to murder.
Prior to the post-mortem, medical records revealed over 40 injuries across the body.
The cause of death was listed as several terrible wounds, severe brain injuries, and heavy bleeding.
The victim was beaten with large sticks, according to investigators, and there are markings on his body that show he was flung to the ground, repeatedly kicked, and dragged. He was stomped on both his face and back, according to X-ray studies, which suggested that the torture was ongoing rather than a single incident.
Those who tried to step in were intimidated and drove away, according to the remand report.
In the meanwhile, Palakkad-born Local Self-Government Minister M.B. Rajesh said that the assault was motivated by hate politics and that the victim was singled out after being called a “Bangladeshi.”
He said that the government would make sure the offenders received the harshest penalty possible and stood strongly with the victim’s family.
All five of the accused, who have criminal histories, have been taken into custody so far.
As the investigation progresses, police say they are working to track down other individuals.
