Delhi Air Pollution Update: After being deported to Thailand, Goa Police received a two-day transit remand for the Luthra brothers
Delhi Air Pollution Update: According to ,there are over 30 lakh cars running on city roads without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certifications, and enforcement against these vehicles is still lax despite Delhi’s rising pollution levels.
Only 45 lakh PUC certificates have been given so far in 2025 out of the roughly 75 lakh registered cars in Delhi that still have life left. Approximately 29 lakh 81 thousand 795 automobiles are operating without PUCs, according to this data.
The numbers show a dramatic drop in compliance as compared to prior years:
49 lakh 32 thousand 973 PUCs were granted in 2024; 52 lakh 30 thousand 292 PUCs were issued in 2023.
54 lakh 73 thousand 13 PUCs in 2022
There is a gap of almost 386,912 certificates so far this year, and even with 15 days remaining in 2025, the number of PUCs is unlikely to equal the amount from the previous year.
Anil Chikara, a former Deputy Commissioner of Transport and transportation expert, emphasized the need of rigorous enforcement. According to him, car owners need to understand that not receiving a PUC might result in action. Vehicles without PUCs are subject to a Rs 10,000 punishment under the legislation, although many people still disregard it.
Chikara continued by saying that the noncompliance indicates carelessness on the part of the transportation department and other organizations in charge of pollution management.
