Who is competing?
The BJP may wager on an OBC candidate in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Panchayat elections next year and the Assembly polls in 2027. Within the party, this is seen as a challenge to the PDA (Backward, Dalit, Minority) formula used by the opposition. Maharajganj MP and Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary is one of the leading candidates for the position of state president.

Chaudhary, a member of the Kurmi community and a Gorakhpur inhabitant, has served as a member of parliament seven times. Notably, Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, is also from this area.

The name of Union Minister BL Verma is also under discussion. He is from the Lodh community and a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, State General Secretary Amar Pal Maurya, Animal Husbandry Minister Dharampal Singh, and Rajya Sabha member Baburam Nishad are also being taken into consideration.

Vinod Sonkar, Vidya Sagar Sonkar, and Jugal Kishore are among the Dalit candidates under consideration.

The duty was divided between the two Deputy Chief Ministers.
Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, State President Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, Dharampal Singh, and other high-ranking officials met with the organization’s national general secretary on Friday night. Election-related duties have been delegated to both Deputy Chief Ministers. The task of organizing the nominations on Saturday has been given to State General Secretary Sanjay Rai and Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Along with Brajesh Pathak, State General Secretary Govind Narayan Shukla has been tasked with overseeing Sunday’s event. State and federal authorities, mayors, MPs, MLAs, district panchayat presidents, district presidents, and even divisional presidents have all been invited. It is anticipated that around 3,500 officials will be present.
