Politics – Eid Prayers Expected Inside Mosques Across Uttar Pradesh This Year

Politics – Muslim religious leaders in Uttar Pradesh have indicated that Eid-ul-Adha prayers this year will continue to be conducted within mosques and Eidgah premises, maintaining the practice followed in recent years. Their remarks came after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated that public roads and open streets should not be used for offering Namaz, citing inconvenience to commuters and local residents.

Clerics Outline Preparations for Eid-ul-Adha

With Eid-ul-Adha scheduled later this month, preparations are already underway at several mosques and Eidgahs across the state. Religious scholars said local committees have been instructed to ensure smooth arrangements so that worshippers can gather without disturbing traffic or public movement.

Senior cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, who is associated with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and also heads the Indian Islamic Centre, said management plans are being reviewed at different prayer venues in Lucknow and nearby districts. According to him, authorities at mosques and Eidgahs are prepared to accommodate large crowds in an organised manner.

Multiple Prayer Sessions May Be Introduced

Religious leaders stated that if attendance exceeds the available capacity at major prayer locations, additional prayer sessions may be organised. Clerics explained that separate congregations can be held one after another to manage crowd size effectively.

Maulana Firangi Mahali noted that such arrangements are possible as long as each prayer gathering is led independently by a different Imam. He added that this method would help maintain order while allowing all worshippers to participate comfortably in Eid prayers.

Several community representatives also pointed out that phased prayer schedules have been discussed earlier during festivals and large religious occasions to avoid congestion at a single venue.

Chief Minister’s Remarks Trigger Discussion

During a recent public programme in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said religious prayers should ideally be conducted only at designated locations such as mosques and Eidgahs. He stated that offering Namaz on roads often creates traffic disruption and causes inconvenience for the public.

The Chief Minister further suggested that when large crowds are expected, prayers can be organised in shifts rather than expanding onto public streets. His comments sparked discussions among religious groups and community organisations regarding festival arrangements for Eid-ul-Adha.

However, Muslim clerics responding to the statement maintained that communities have already been following such practices responsibly in many places over the years.

Community Leaders Stress Discipline and Lawful Conduct

Speaking on the issue, Maulana Firangi Mahali said Muslims have traditionally offered Eid prayers within mosque compounds and Eidgahs while respecting administrative guidelines. He emphasised that Namaz is not only a form of worship but also encourages discipline, social responsibility, and orderly conduct among worshippers.

He further said that avoiding the use of roads for prayers reflects the community’s effort to cooperate with civic authorities and maintain public convenience. According to him, local organisers generally coordinate with district administrations before major religious gatherings to ensure proper arrangements.

The cleric also remarked that similar standards regarding public gatherings should apply equally to all communities. He stated that roads should ideally remain free from disruptions caused by any large religious or social event.

Administrative Coordination Likely Ahead of Festival

Officials are expected to coordinate with local religious committees in the coming days to review crowd management plans and security arrangements ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. Authorities usually deploy additional personnel near major mosques and Eidgahs during the festival to regulate traffic and maintain public safety.

Community leaders have expressed hope that the festival will be observed peacefully with cooperation between worshippers, organisers, and local administration. Discussions around staggered prayer timings and designated venues are also likely to continue as preparations move forward.
