Security – Central Forces Strengthen Delhi Security Ahead of Independence Day
Security – National security preparations continue to intensify as additional Central Armed Police Forces are being deployed in the national capital to support law and order arrangements during a period of student demonstrations and the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Additional CRPF Companies Sent to Delhi
The Union government has directed the deployment of 10 more companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from Chhattisgarh to Delhi, according to officials on Friday. The decision is aimed at reinforcing security in the capital as student protests continue in several areas. This latest deployment comes shortly after 20 CRPF companies were moved from West Bengal to Delhi earlier in the week as part of an expanded security plan.
Security Review Accelerates Force Deployment
Officials said a high-level security review meeting held on Thursday concluded that all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) units scheduled for Independence Day duty should reach Delhi ahead of their original reporting schedule. The early arrival is intended to ensure adequate preparation and coordination before the national celebrations.
Authorities expect nearly 150 CAPF companies to be stationed across the city over the coming days. Each company generally consists of around 100 personnel. Of these, approximately 100 companies are already working alongside the Delhi Police to assist with law and order responsibilities in different parts of the capital.
Multiple Central Forces Join Security Arrangements
Apart from the additional CRPF personnel, several other central security forces have also been deployed to strengthen the overall security framework. Three units of the Rapid Action Force have been positioned in Delhi, while personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are also participating in security operations.
Officials indicated that the coordinated deployment of multiple forces is intended to improve response capability, maintain public order, and support local police during a period of heightened security requirements.
Metro Security Receives Additional Attention
Security measures have also been reinforced across the Delhi Metro network. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for safeguarding metro operations, has significantly restricted leave for its personnel. According to officials, only emergency leave requests are currently being approved to ensure maximum staffing at metro stations.
The CISF has approximately 13,000 personnel assigned to protect nearly 250 Delhi Metro stations spread across the National Capital Region, covering Delhi and adjoining areas in three states. Maintaining full operational strength is considered essential as passenger movement is expected to remain high and security arrangements become more extensive in the lead-up to Independence Day.
Enhanced Vigilance Ahead of National Celebrations
The latest deployments reflect the Centre’s broader strategy to reinforce security across Delhi during a period marked by ongoing student protests and preparations for one of the country’s most significant national events. With additional personnel arriving from multiple Central Armed Police Forces, authorities are working to ensure effective coordination, maintain public safety, and support existing policing efforts throughout the capital in the days leading up to Independence Day.
