Heatwave – The Uttar Pradesh government has called on residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as heatwave conditions begin to intensify across the state.
As temperatures continue to climb, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday appealed to citizens to remain cautious and adopt safety measures to protect themselves and others. The India Meteorological Department has indicated that Lucknow could witness temperatures ranging from 25°C to 41°C, reflecting the growing intensity of the summer season.
Government Emphasises Preparedness Across State
In a public message, the Chief Minister highlighted that seasonal changes are natural but require timely preparation to minimize risks. He assured that the administration has already activated a coordinated response system at multiple levels to address heat-related challenges. According to him, protecting human life remains the government’s top priority, and steps have been taken similar to those implemented during extreme winter conditions.
He further noted that rising temperatures serve as a reminder for individuals and institutions alike to strengthen their readiness. Authorities have been instructed to ensure swift implementation of safety measures and maintain vigilance throughout the summer months.
Citizens Urged to Follow Basic Safety Practices
The Chief Minister also underlined the role of public participation in reducing the impact of extreme heat. He advised residents to take simple but effective steps, such as keeping drinking water available for birds and animals, wearing light and breathable fabrics like cotton or khadi, and paying special attention to children and elderly family members.
He cautioned against negligence that could lead to fire hazards, which tend to increase during high temperatures. Residents were encouraged to remain mindful of electrical usage and other potential risks during peak heat conditions.
Power Supply and Infrastructure Readiness
Addressing concerns related to electricity demand, the government has prepared to meet increased consumption levels during the summer. Officials have planned to generate up to 34,000 megawatts of power by operating thermal plants at full capacity. This move is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply, especially during peak hours when cooling needs surge.
In addition, local administrations have been directed to monitor infrastructure closely to prevent disruptions and maintain essential services during extreme weather conditions.
Measures Introduced to Reduce Heat Impact
To help residents cope with the heat, several on-ground initiatives have been launched. These include regular sprinkling of water on roads to lower surface temperatures, establishment of shaded rest areas for pedestrians, and the organization of health camps at construction sites and industrial zones where workers are more exposed to heat.
Hospitals and healthcare centers have been instructed to remain fully equipped to handle heatstroke cases and provide immediate medical assistance. Free drinking water facilities are also being set up at key public locations such as tehsil offices, police stations, and Anganwadi centres to ensure easy access for citizens.
Focus on Animal Welfare During Heatwave
The administration has also taken steps to protect animals during the harsh summer. Heatwave Action Plans are being implemented in zoos and wildlife sanctuaries to ensure proper care and monitoring. Gaushalas and other animal shelters have been directed to maintain sufficient supplies of water and fodder to prevent distress among livestock.
Officials emphasized that safeguarding animals is an essential part of the broader response to extreme weather conditions.
As the state braces for rising temperatures, authorities continue to stress the importance of awareness, preparedness, and collective responsibility. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed, follow official advisories, and take proactive steps to remain safe during the ongoing heatwave.
