Youth Engagement –The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is preparing a major outreach initiative aimed at connecting with students from Generation Z and Generation Alpha in the wake of recent nationwide protests linked to an examination paper leak and the resignation of the Union education minister. The move reflects a renewed focus on engaging young people in conversations about leadership, education and the country’s future.
National Event to Bring Together Students
RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to interact with more than 2,000 students representing nearly 100 cities during a programme at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai on August 6. The event is expected to draw participants from schools and colleges across India, creating a platform for dialogue between young citizens and one of the country’s prominent public figures.
The gathering is being organised by the International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN), which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. According to the organisers, the conference will primarily feature students between the ages of 15 and 19 and is designed as a youth-led forum encouraging meaningful discussions on issues that matter to the younger generation.
Focus on Dialogue and Leadership
The interaction is taking place at a time when students across the country are becoming increasingly involved in debates surrounding democracy, governance, public policy and national development. Organisers believe the event will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas on leadership and civic responsibility while engaging directly with Bhagwat.
The programme follows recent public remarks by the RSS chief during the Vishwa Mangalya Sabha event, where he highlighted the importance of open communication with young people. His comments came against the backdrop of student demonstrations that drew national attention over concerns related to examination irregularities.
Bhagwat Calls for Greater Communication
Speaking on the changing expectations of younger generations, Bhagwat said that today’s youth respond better to discussion than directives. He observed that the culture of unquestioned obedience that existed in earlier decades has changed significantly, making it necessary for leaders to communicate with students in a more participatory manner.
He stressed that meaningful engagement requires creating a sense of belonging among young people and encouraging conversations instead of issuing instructions. Bhagwat also said that consensus-building should take precedence over authority, suggesting that leadership today depends more on dialogue than command.
IIMUN Marks Fifteen Years
The conference also coincides with a milestone year for IIMUN, an organisation known for promoting youth participation through educational and leadership programmes. As part of its 15th anniversary celebrations, the organisation has planned the event as one of its largest student gatherings, bringing together participants from diverse educational backgrounds and regions of the country.
IIMUN founder Rishabh Shah described the upcoming interaction with Bhagwat as significant, saying it comes at an important stage in India’s development. He noted that the conference is intended to encourage young people to think critically about their role in shaping the nation’s future while engaging with experienced leaders from different fields.
The event is expected to serve as a platform for discussions on leadership, civic participation and national issues, reflecting the growing interest among students in contributing to public conversations beyond the classroom.
