YogaAwareness – Kolkata Marathon Highlights Fitness Push Ahead of Yoga Day
YogaAwareness – A large-scale marathon promoting fitness and well-being was organised in Kolkata on Friday as part of preparations for International Yoga Day. The event, titled “Daud Se Dhyan” (Run for Yoga), brought together residents, yoga enthusiasts, public representatives, and community leaders who participated enthusiastically to spread awareness about healthy living and the importance of regular physical activity.

Strong Public Participation Marks the Event
The marathon witnessed significant participation from people across different age groups, reflecting growing public interest in fitness and wellness activities. Participants gathered in large numbers to support the initiative, which aimed to encourage individuals to adopt healthier routines and incorporate yoga and mindfulness practices into their daily lives.
The programme was flagged off by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who has been actively involved in a series of public outreach campaigns leading up to International Yoga Day. The event focused on creating awareness about physical fitness while also highlighting the benefits of mental well-being through yoga.
Civic Leaders Extend Support
Several political leaders and elected representatives attended the marathon and expressed support for the initiative. Among them was Trinamool Congress councillor Ashim Basu, who described the programme as a positive effort for the people of Kolkata.
Speaking during the event, Basu said that public representatives had joined the programme following the Chief Minister’s invitation and welcomed activities that contribute to public welfare. He also stressed the importance of cooperation among civic bodies and elected members in carrying out development work for the benefit of residents across the city.
According to him, collective efforts remain essential for addressing public concerns and advancing initiatives that improve the quality of life for people in Kolkata and across West Bengal.
Focus on International Yoga Day
The marathon forms part of a broader campaign being conducted ahead of International Yoga Day, which is observed every year on June 21. Authorities and organisers have been holding various awareness programmes to encourage participation in yoga-related activities and promote healthier lifestyles among citizens.
Through events such as the marathon, organisers hope to reach a wider audience and underline the role of exercise, mindfulness, and yoga in maintaining both physical and mental health. The campaign also seeks to inspire people to make wellness a regular part of their daily routine.
Cleanliness Campaign Continues Across the State
Earlier this week, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari took part in the “Swachhata Se Swagat” campaign at Mayor Ghat in Kolkata. The cleanliness initiative was launched as part of preparations linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to West Bengal on International Yoga Day.
The campaign, which is scheduled to continue until June 20, focuses on strengthening cleanliness efforts and improving public spaces across the state. During the programme, Adhikari was joined by state minister Agnimitra Paul and other officials.
In a symbolic gesture supporting the campaign, the Chief Minister personally participated in cleaning activities at the ghat. Addressing the media, he said the initiative was part of wider efforts being undertaken to welcome the Prime Minister and promote civic responsibility among citizens.
With both wellness and cleanliness campaigns gaining momentum, state authorities are aiming to combine public health awareness with community participation ahead of the upcoming International Yoga Day celebrations
