EncounterCase – STF Constable Arrested as Bharat Tiwari Probe Gains Momentum
EncounterCase – The investigation into the controversial Bharat Tiwari encounter has taken a significant turn with the arrest of an STF constable, as authorities continue to examine the actions of all personnel involved in the operation.

Arrah Superintendent of Police Raj confirmed on Friday that a joint operation carried out by the Arrah Police and the Special Task Force (STF) resulted in the arrest of STF constable Akshay Kumar in connection with the Bharat Tiwari encounter case. According to the police, legal formalities are underway and the investigation remains active. Officials stated that the inquiry is progressing and that further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the ongoing probe.
Joint Operation Leads to Arrest
Speaking about the development, SP Raj said the arrested constable has been identified as Akshay Kumar and that the arrest was made through coordinated efforts between the district police and the STF. He added that investigators are continuing to examine all aspects of the case and that the legal process will proceed in accordance with the findings of the investigation.
The arrest marks the first major action against a member of the police force in the case, which has remained under close public and administrative scrutiny since the incident took place earlier this year.
Government Response and Administrative Action
The latest development comes after Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary met members of Bharat Tiwari’s family in Patna and assured them that justice would be ensured through the legal process. Soon after that meeting, SDPO Rajesh Kumar Sharma was recalled to the police headquarters, a move that drew attention as the investigation gathered pace.
The Bihar government had earlier ordered a judicial inquiry into the encounter following public concern and demands for an independent investigation. Officials have maintained that the inquiry is being conducted to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
Family Continues to Demand Wider Accountability
Reacting to the arrest, Bharat Tiwari’s family said they welcomed the progress but insisted that justice would remain incomplete unless every officer found responsible is held accountable.
Family members, including his mother Asha Devi, father Kashinath Tiwari, brother Chandan Tiwari and sister-in-law Suman Devi, said they continue to trust the assurances given by the Chief Minister. At the same time, they maintained that a single arrest should not be considered the conclusion of the case. They called for action against all police personnel who may have played a role in the encounter if the investigation establishes their involvement.
Every Officer’s Role Under Examination
According to police sources, investigators are carefully reviewing the conduct of every member of the team that participated in the operation. The inquiry is examining available evidence and statements to determine individual responsibility. Officials indicated that additional action could follow if further evidence emerges during the investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the evidence collected so far, stating that the probe is still in progress and that conclusions will be reached only after the investigation is completed.
Background of the Encounter
Bharat Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, died during a police encounter on June 17. The incident quickly became the subject of widespread public discussion and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the operation.
His family has consistently alleged that Bharat Tiwari had surrendered and laid down his weapon before police opened fire. These claims prompted demands for an impartial investigation, eventually leading the Bihar government to order a judicial probe.
With the arrest of an STF constable, the investigation has entered a new phase. However, officials have stressed that the judicial process and ongoing inquiry will determine the sequence of events and any further legal responsibility arising from the encounter.
