Weather Update – Light Rain and Thunderstorms Likely in Delhi Amid Moderate Temperatures
Weather Update – Residents of Delhi experienced relatively comfortable weather conditions on Sunday as temperatures remained slightly below the seasonal average. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius, offering some relief from the intense summer heat typically witnessed during this period.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Expected
The weather department has predicted a change in conditions for Monday, with very light to light rainfall likely during the afternoon and evening hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also expected in several parts of the city. Meteorologists estimate that the maximum temperature may reach around 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain close to 26 degrees Celsius.
Temperature Variation Across the Capital
Data collected from major weather monitoring stations across Delhi showed that daytime temperatures remained within a narrow range on Sunday. Maximum temperatures recorded across different locations varied between 38.4 degrees Celsius and 39.1 degrees Celsius.
Among all monitored areas, Ridge emerged as the warmest location, registering a maximum temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal level for this time of year. Lodi Road followed with 38.7 degrees Celsius, while Palam reported 38.6 degrees Celsius.
Safdarjung, which serves as the city’s primary weather observation centre, recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius. Ayanagar reported the lowest daytime reading among the major stations at 38.4 degrees Celsius, which was significantly below the seasonal average.
Night Temperatures Remained Pleasant
Minimum temperatures across Delhi remained comparatively moderate and ranged between 23.4 degrees Celsius and 26.2 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung recorded the highest overnight temperature at 26.2 degrees Celsius.
Palam reported a minimum temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar registered 24.8 degrees Celsius. Lodi Road recorded 24.6 degrees Celsius during the early morning hours.
Ridge, despite being the hottest location during the day, turned out to be the coolest area overnight, with the minimum temperature dropping to 23.4 degrees Celsius. This reading was notably lower than the normal temperature expected for the season.
Humidity Levels and Air Quality Status
Humidity levels remained moderate in the capital. IMD observations showed that relative humidity stood at 61 percent at 8:30 am, indicating the presence of moisture in the atmosphere ahead of the forecast rainfall activity.
Meanwhile, air quality conditions continued to remain in the moderate category. Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 151 at 4 pm on Sunday. While the air quality did not fall into the poor category, health experts generally advise sensitive groups to limit prolonged outdoor exposure when AQI levels remain elevated.
Ridge Records Highest Daytime Temperature
Among Delhi’s key weather stations, Ridge recorded the highest maximum temperature of the day at 39.1 degrees Celsius. The reading was slightly above the seasonal norm and made the area the warmest location in the city on Sunday. Weather officials will continue monitoring conditions as rainfall and thunderstorm activity are expected to influence temperatures over the coming days.
