Weather – Delhi to Experience Pleasant Conditions as Rain Chances Continue

Weather – Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region are likely to enjoy a further break from harsh summer conditions as forecasts indicate continued rainfall activity, thunderstorms, and strong winds during the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the prevailing weather system is expected to keep temperatures moderate through at least June 4, offering relief from the seasonal heat that usually dominates this period.

Yellow Alert Issued for Tuesday

The weather agency has placed Delhi under a yellow alert for Tuesday, highlighting the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning activity, scattered light showers, and gusty winds. These conditions are expected to become more noticeable during the evening and nighttime hours. Wind speeds may reach between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour in isolated locations. However, no colour-coded alerts have been announced for Wednesday or Thursday.

Temperatures Likely to Remain Below 40 Degrees

Meteorological experts believe that the current weather pattern will help suppress daytime temperatures over the next several days. As a result, maximum temperatures are expected to stay below the 40-degree Celsius mark until at least June 6. This trend marks a departure from the intense heat typically experienced in early June across the national capital.

Cooler Start to June Recorded in Delhi

Delhi began June on a relatively mild note compared with recent years. Data from the Safdarjung observatory, considered the city’s primary weather monitoring station, showed a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius on June 1, while the minimum temperature settled at 24.9 degrees Celsius.

Weather records indicate that a cooler June 1 daytime temperature was last observed in 2023, when the city’s maximum temperature reached only 32.7 degrees Celsius. The recent readings reflect the influence of changing weather systems and increased cloud cover over the region.

Southwest Monsoon Nearing Kerala Coast

Meanwhile, attention is turning toward the advancement of the southwest monsoon, one of the country’s most significant weather events. The IMD has stated that atmospheric conditions have become favourable for the monsoon’s arrival over Kerala within the next two to three days.

The department noted that the weather system is also expected to move further across parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu during this period. The progression of the monsoon is closely monitored each year as it plays a crucial role in agriculture, water resources, and overall climate conditions across India.

Monsoon Expected to Expand Across Bay of Bengal

Forecasts further suggest that the monsoon will continue its advance into additional sections of the Bay of Bengal, including the southwest, west-central, east-central, and northeastern regions. This development aligns with the normal seasonal pattern, which typically begins around the start of June before gradually extending across the country over the following weeks.

Rainfall Activity Predicted in Multiple States

Apart from Delhi-NCR, several regions across northern, eastern, central, and southern India are expected to witness thunderstorms, rainfall, lightning, and strong winds during the week. These weather conditions are likely to provide welcome relief from elevated temperatures that have affected many parts of the country in recent weeks.

Officials say the anticipated rainfall could help improve overall weather conditions, reduce heat stress, and bring more comfortable temperatures to several states as the monsoon season gradually strengthens its presence across India.
