Weather – Chennai May See Evening Showers as Rain Pattern Strengthens Across Tamil Nadu

Weather – Chennai is expected to witness moderate rainfall during the evening hours on Saturday, while several districts along the Western Ghats are likely to continue receiving rain accompanied by gusty winds over the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Weather officials have indicated that the current atmospheric conditions will keep rainfall activity active across parts of the state until July 23.

Weather System Driving Rainfall

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said a trough stretching from the southwest Bay of Bengal towards the north Lakshadweep region is influencing weather conditions over Tamil Nadu and nearby areas. This system is expected to support cloud formation and increase rainfall, particularly in districts located along the Western Ghats.

Meteorologists noted that these areas have already experienced intermittent showers in recent days, and the prevailing weather pattern is likely to sustain similar conditions through the coming week. Strong winds may accompany moderate rainfall in several hill districts during this period.

Rain Expected in Different Parts of Tamil Nadu

The Western Ghats region is expected to receive the most consistent rainfall over the next few days. North coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are also likely to experience moderate showers, while the majority of interior districts are expected to receive only light rainfall at isolated locations.

A similar weather outlook has been issued for the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal, where light rain is forecast to continue until July 23. Despite the ongoing rain activity, the IMD has not predicted widespread heavy rainfall across the state at this stage.

Chennai Forecast Remains Warm and Humid

For Chennai, the weather office has predicted partly cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rain during the evening or nighttime. While short spells of rain may offer temporary relief, daytime weather is expected to remain warm with high humidity.

The maximum temperature in the city is likely to touch around 38 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected to stay close to the seasonal average. Residents may continue to experience uncomfortable daytime conditions despite occasional rainfall.

Interior Districts Likely to Stay Hot

Even as rain continues in some regions, heat is expected to remain a concern across the interior parts of Tamil Nadu. According to the RMC, daytime temperatures in these districts may stay up to three degrees Celsius above normal until July 21.

In contrast, coastal areas including Chennai, Puducherry and Karaikal are expected to record temperatures that remain close to normal seasonal values. Weather experts said the rainfall pattern is unlikely to significantly reduce temperatures in the state’s interior regions during the next few days.

Advisory for Residents

The Meteorological Department has urged people to stay informed through official weather updates, particularly those living in districts where gusty winds and intermittent rainfall are expected. Authorities are also expected to closely monitor local weather developments as the trough continues to influence atmospheric conditions across Tamil Nadu.

Although no widespread heavy rain has been forecast, changing weather conditions and isolated showers may affect daily travel and outdoor activities in some areas. Officials have advised residents to remain cautious and keep track of the latest forecasts issued by the weather department.
