Tamil nadu heavy rain weather alert

Weather System Triggers Rainfall Across Multiple Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu, with heavy showers and strong winds expected to impact several districts on Saturday. The changing weather pattern is linked to an upper-air trough extending from the Andhra Pradesh coast to central Maharashtra through Telangana, creating favorable conditions for increased rainfall across southern India.

According to meteorologists, the system is likely to keep weather conditions active throughout the coming week, bringing intermittent rain to many parts of Tamil Nadu along with the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal.

Six Districts Under Heavy Rain Alert

The weather department has identified Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, and Ranipet as the districts most likely to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds on Saturday.

Officials have advised people living in these areas to remain cautious, particularly during periods of intense rain. Heavy downpours may result in water accumulation on roads, slower traffic movement, temporary disruptions to daily activities, and isolated damage caused by strong winds.

More Rain Expected in Southern and Western Regions

The active weather pattern is expected to continue beyond Saturday, with several southern and western districts likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days.

On Sunday, the hilly areas of Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli districts are expected to witness heavy showers. Similar conditions are also likely in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, and Kanyakumari districts, where rainfall activity is forecast to remain significant.

Meteorologists explained that increased moisture flowing into the region is supporting the development of widespread rain-bearing clouds, leading to consistent rainfall across much of the state.

Authorities Advise Public to Stay Prepared

While the rainfall is expected to lower temperatures and offer relief from recent heat, officials have warned that intense spells of rain could temporarily affect normal life in vulnerable locations.

Low-lying areas may experience localized flooding, while commuters could face delays because of waterlogged roads and reduced visibility during heavy showers. Residents have been encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow instructions issued by district administrations whenever required.

Fishermen Warned Against Venturing Into Sea

Alongside the rainfall forecast, the weather department has issued a marine advisory for fishermen operating along the southern coastline of Tamil Nadu.

Strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph are expected over the South Tamil Nadu coastal waters, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Comorin Sea until June 30. Rough sea conditions associated with these winds may pose risks to fishing vessels and small boats.

Authorities have strongly advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the affected waters during the warning period to ensure their safety.

Officials Continue Monitoring Weather Developments

Government agencies and weather experts are keeping a close watch on the evolving weather system. Residents have been urged to rely on official weather bulletins for the latest forecasts and advisories, allowing them to take necessary precautions as weather conditions change across the state.
