Decade-Long Documentation Issue Comes to an End

The transfer concludes nearly ten years of uncertainty regarding the custody of records that are considered essential for the governance of Waqf institutions in Andhra Pradesh. Following the state’s bifurcation, these historical documents remained with the Telangana State Waqf Board, creating administrative challenges for the Andhra Pradesh authorities in handling property-related matters.

As part of the transfer, the Telangana State Waqf Board handed over 79 bundles containing 3,503 files, along with 4,050 Survey Commissioner reports. The records also include two volumes of official gazettes and several other historical documents linked to Waqf properties located in Andhra Pradesh.

Records Expected to Strengthen Property Protection

Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board Chairman Abdul Aziz described the transfer as a significant achievement for the institution. He said the recovered documents will play a crucial role in protecting the legal ownership and administrative interests of Waqf properties spread across the state.

According to him, these records contain valuable historical and official information required for verifying land ownership, maintaining property records, and supporting legal claims whenever disputes arise. Their availability is expected to improve the board’s ability to carry out its statutory responsibilities more effectively.

Missing Documents Had Affected Administrative Functions

Abdul Aziz noted that the absence of these documents over the past several years had created practical difficulties in the functioning of the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board. Without access to the original records, officials faced challenges while confirming ownership details, protecting Waqf assets, and pursuing legal action in cases involving disputed properties.

He also pointed out that the lack of documentation made it more difficult to identify and remove encroachments on Waqf lands, delaying efforts to safeguard assets intended for religious and charitable purposes. The restored records are expected to support more efficient decision-making and strengthen future legal proceedings.

Continuous Coordination Helped Resolve the Matter

The AP Waqf Board chairman said resolving the issue had remained one of the board’s key priorities since he assumed office. He credited sustained communication and regular coordination with the Telangana State Waqf Board leadership and senior officials for helping bring the long-standing matter to a successful conclusion.

Officials believe the transfer will provide the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board with the documentary foundation required to improve record verification, property administration, and legal compliance. The availability of complete historical files is also expected to support better governance and ensure that Waqf properties receive appropriate legal protection in the years ahead.
