Netflix Launches India Storytelling Initiative
To commemorate its tenth anniversary in India, Netflix introduced the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, a programme designed to strengthen education, professional training, and skill development across the creative sector.
According to the company, the initiative will be implemented in partnership with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). The collaboration aims to prepare aspiring professionals with industry-relevant skills while supporting the long-term growth of India’s creative ecosystem.
Netflix India announced the programme through its official social media channels, stating that the investment reflects its commitment to developing the country’s future creative workforce through educational partnerships and specialised training opportunities.
First Phase to Focus on Industry-Ready Skills
The opening phase of the initiative will see Netflix working alongside IICT to develop a curriculum aligned with current production requirements. The courses will concentrate on areas such as Visual Effects Mastery and Media Technology Workflows, helping students gain practical knowledge suited to modern film and digital production environments.
In addition, Netflix will sponsor scholarships for 100 Indian students enrolling in classroom-based programmes offered by IICT. These courses will cover a wide range of creative disciplines, including Interactive Comics and Sequential Art, Virtual Art Department Content Creation, Character Animation, and E-Sports and Gaming Management.
The company believes that providing specialised training in these emerging fields will help students build careers that match the changing demands of the global entertainment industry.
Second Phase Aims to Strengthen Talent Pipeline
The second stage of the programme will involve collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation to support workforce development for new opportunities emerging within India’s evolving media landscape.
Netflix said this partnership is intended to create a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals capable of meeting the industry’s future employment needs. The initiative is also expected to complement broader efforts to expand access to career opportunities in film, television, animation, and related creative sectors.
Partnership Promotes Culture and Tourism
Separately, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism have joined hands with Netflix India to showcase India’s cultural heritage and tourism destinations through authentic screen storytelling.
As part of this collaboration, Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat introduced a new “As Seen on Netflix” section on the Incredible India portal. The feature is designed to highlight locations featured in Netflix productions, encouraging viewers to explore destinations connected with popular films and series while promoting India’s cultural diversity to domestic and international audiences.
