Grand Procession and Cultural Highlights

One of the most anticipated features of this year’s Parikrama is a ceremonial procession arriving from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. The procession includes a golden chariot dedicated to Sai Baba, along with a traditional umbrella, chamar, sacred flag and holy chadar. Organisers say the procession has been carefully planned to preserve ritual traditions while ensuring safety and order.

Cultural groups from different states have also joined the celebration. A Tandav dance troupe from Indore, a traditional percussion ensemble from Kerala and a Damru group are performing along the route. Local students, Lezim and Pavli performers, Sambal troupes, devotional singers and decorative floats have added to the festive yet reverent atmosphere, creating a blend of spirituality and cultural heritage.

City Prepares to Welcome Pilgrims

Shirdi has been extensively decorated to receive the influx of devotees. The Parikrama route is lined with flowers, colourful rangoli patterns and welcome arches at key points. Residents of nearby villages have gathered along the path to greet pilgrims, offering words of encouragement and prayers.

As the Parikrama coincides with Ekadashi, special arrangements have been made for those observing fasts. More than 100 distribution centres have been set up by social organisations and local volunteers to provide sabudana khichdi, fruits, tea, light snacks and drinking water. Organisers said the goal is to ensure that no devotee faces difficulty during the walk.

Security and Crowd Management Measures

To manage the large turnout, the Green Clean Shirdi Foundation, in coordination with the Sai Baba Sansthan and local authorities, has deployed around 500 volunteers. Police teams are monitoring the event, and watchtowers have been installed at strategic locations. Drone cameras are being used to oversee crowd movement and maintain security.

Temporary facilities, including separate mobile toilets for men and women, first-aid centres and ambulances, have been positioned along the route. Officials stated that these measures are intended to provide immediate assistance if required and to maintain smooth movement throughout the procession.

Key Religious Sites Along the Route

The Parikrama traditionally includes visits to several prominent locations connected to Sai Baba’s life and teachings.

Devotees first pay homage at the Samadhi Mandir, where Sai Baba’s mortal remains are enshrined. The site remains the spiritual centre of Shirdi and draws continuous footfall throughout the year.

Another important stop is Dwarkamai, the mosque where Sai Baba spent much of his life guiding followers and sharing spiritual wisdom. Chavadi, where he rested on alternate nights, symbolises his simple way of living. Gurusthan, marked by a neem tree, is believed to be the place where he first appeared in Shirdi as a young ascetic. The peaceful Lendi Bagh garden, where Sai Baba often meditated, offers a quiet moment for reflection during the walk.

Concluding Ceremony and Dignitaries

After completing the Parikrama, devotees will gather for the closing ceremony at the Shatabdi Mandap. Trustees of the Sai Baba Sansthan are scheduled to distribute prasad and sacred Udi to participants. Among those expected to attend are Maharashtra’s Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Dr. Sujay Vikhe Patil, Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj of Sarla Island and Mahant Kashikanand Maharaj.

Organisers have appealed to devotees to maintain discipline and follow official guidelines to ensure the event proceeds peacefully. For many participants, the Parikrama is more than a ritual walk; it is a reaffirmation of faith and a reminder of Sai Baba’s enduring message of compassion, humility and unity.
