Security – Punjab Tightens Vigil After Blasts Near Military Installations
Security – Punjab Police has intensified security measures following two low-intensity explosions reported within hours of each other in Jalandhar and Amritsar. Senior officials believe the incidents may be linked to attempts at disturbing peace in the border state ahead of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday visited Amritsar to inspect the site near the Khasa Army Camp where one of the explosions took place late Tuesday night. During a media briefing, the police chief said discussions had been held with Army officials regarding security coordination and preventive measures in sensitive areas.
Investigation Teams Collect Evidence
According to police officials, information about the blast near the boundary wall of the Khasa Army Camp was received around 10:50 pm on Tuesday. The incident occurred only a short time after another explosion was reported near the Border Security Force headquarters in Jalandhar.
Soon after the incident, senior officers from Punjab Police and Amritsar Rural Police reached the area. Bomb disposal units and forensic experts were also deployed to inspect the location and secure the surroundings.
Authorities confirmed that samples and material evidence have been collected for scientific examination. A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and investigations are being conducted jointly with defence authorities and central agencies.
Focus on Forensic and Intelligence Inputs
Police officials said several teams are currently analysing technical data, intelligence inputs, and forensic findings to determine the nature of the explosive devices used in the incidents.
DGP Yadav stated that the explosions were of low intensity, but the exact composition and mechanism of the devices would only become clear after laboratory analysis is completed. He added that investigators are following all possible leads in a structured and evidence-based manner.
Officials have not identified any organisation behind the explosions so far. However, the Punjab Police chief indicated that preliminary assessments point towards efforts by Pakistan’s intelligence network to create unrest in the region.
Concerns Over Cross-Border Disturbance Attempts
During the briefing, the DGP said Punjab has long remained vulnerable to cross-border attempts aimed at disrupting internal stability. He noted that security agencies remain alert against activities linked to proxy operations targeting the state.
The police chief said authorities are coordinating closely with multiple agencies to identify those responsible and prevent similar incidents in the future. Security around military and border installations has also been strengthened as a precautionary measure.
Political Reactions Intensify
The incidents also triggered political reactions within the state. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann condemned the explosions and assured residents that law and order would be maintained at all costs.
Speaking to reporters, Mann said investigations into the blasts were ongoing and warned against attempts to disturb communal harmony in Punjab. He claimed certain political forces were trying to create tension ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The Chief Minister further stated that Punjab has witnessed difficult periods in the past and that people in the state would not support any attempt to create fear or instability. He assured strict action against anyone found involved in the incidents.
Security Agencies Remain on Alert
Meanwhile, security forces and intelligence agencies continue monitoring developments closely across border districts. Police officials have appealed to the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
The back-to-back incidents have once again drawn attention to Punjab’s security challenges due to its sensitive border location and the presence of strategic military establishments.
