Prime Minister Commends Seema Kaliramna’s Bronze Medal

Seema Kaliramna secured the bronze medal in the women’s discus throw final with a best effort of 58.65 metres. Following her performance, Prime Minister Modi praised the athlete through a post on X, describing her achievement as a proud moment for the nation.

In his message, the Prime Minister congratulated Seema for earning the bronze medal and said her success would inspire young athletes across India. He also wished her continued success in future international competitions, acknowledging the determination and hard work behind her performance.

Lovepreet Singh Earns Silver After Strong Weightlifting Display

Weightlifter Lovepreet Singh also received appreciation from the Prime Minister after claiming the silver medal in the men’s 110kg and above category. Lovepreet finished the competition with a combined lift of 388 kilograms, producing one of the finest performances of his career.

PM Modi highlighted the weightlifter’s commitment and perseverance, calling his effort exceptional. He also noted that Lovepreet established a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch segment before finishing second overall and extended his best wishes for the athlete’s future competitions.

Discus Throw Final Produces Competitive Finish

The women’s discus throw competition featured strong performances from several leading athletes. Jamaica’s Samantha Hall captured the gold medal with a best throw of 61.66 metres, while Canada’s Julia Tunks secured silver after recording 60.67 metres.

Seema Kaliramna’s throw of 58.65 metres was enough to earn third place, giving India another podium finish at the Games. Her consistent performance throughout the competition ensured the country added another medal to its growing tally in Glasgow.

Dramatic Weightlifting Contest Decided by One Kilogram

Lovepreet Singh appeared to be on course for the gold medal after successfully lifting 212 kilograms in his second clean and jerk attempt. His combined total of 388 kilograms briefly placed him at the top of the standings and set a Commonwealth Games record.

However, New Zealand’s David Liti delivered a remarkable final attempt that changed the outcome of the event. After opening with a successful lift of 207 kilograms, Liti increased the weight dramatically to 223 kilograms for his next attempt. He completed the challenging lift successfully, taking his overall total to 389 kilograms and moving ahead of Lovepreet by just one kilogram to secure the gold medal.

Although narrowly missing the top spot, Lovepreet’s silver medal represented a significant improvement from the bronze medal he won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, reflecting his continued progress on the international stage.

India’s Medal Count Continues to Rise

India’s overall performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 has remained encouraging, with athletes delivering consistent results across multiple disciplines. Following the latest medal-winning performances by Seema Kaliramna and Lovepreet Singh, the country’s tally has reached 17 medals.

The current collection includes three gold medals, ten silver medals and four bronze medals, placing India in a competitive position as the Games continue in Glasgow. With several events still remaining, the Indian contingent will look to build on this momentum and further improve its medal count.
