Safety – Hoarding Collapse During Storm Claims Young Man’s Life in Ahilyanagar
Safety – A 24-year-old man lost his life after a large advertising hoarding collapsed during severe weather conditions in Rashin village, located in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district. The victim, identified as Amit Mohan Sukale, was reportedly carrying out work on the structure when the accident occurred. Following the incident, local police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Vikas Lahu Saykar and have begun a detailed investigation.

Fatal Incident Amid Adverse Weather
For the past two days, Karjat taluka has been experiencing intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds. At Mahatma Phule Chowk in Rashin, a sizeable iron hoarding had been installed to display promotional material for an upcoming event planned in Chondi. As weather conditions worsened, concerns reportedly arose that the flex banner attached to the structure could suffer damage due to the force of the wind.
Effort to Protect Banner Ends in Tragedy
According to preliminary findings, Amit Sukale was instructed to climb onto the hoarding and create openings in the flex material. The purpose of the task was reportedly to reduce wind resistance and prevent the banner from tearing. Sukale climbed the structure and began carrying out the work as directed.
However, while he was on the hoarding, weather conditions suddenly became more severe. Strong gusts of wind struck the area, placing additional pressure on the iron framework. Within moments, the entire structure reportedly gave way and collapsed.
Victim Died at the Scene
The falling hoarding trapped Sukale beneath its heavy metal frame. Witnesses at the scene were unable to prevent the accident, and the young man succumbed to his injuries immediately. Emergency assistance was sought, but he was declared dead at the location of the incident.
The tragedy has drawn significant attention in the region, with residents expressing concern over the safety of large structures installed in public spaces, particularly during periods of extreme weather.
Video Footage Circulates Online
The incident was captured on video, and recordings of the collapse have since spread widely across social media platforms. The footage shows the hoarding giving way during strong winds, highlighting the dangerous conditions present at the time of the accident.
The circulation of the video has sparked discussions about safety measures, maintenance standards, and the responsibilities of those involved in installing and managing large advertising structures.
Investigation Focuses on Hoarding Legality
Police officials have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. Investigators are examining whether the hoarding had the necessary permissions and whether safety regulations were properly followed before it was erected.
Authorities are also reviewing the decisions that led to Sukale being asked to work on the structure during challenging weather conditions. Statements from witnesses and other individuals connected to the installation are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe.
Officials stated that the investigation will determine accountability and establish whether any negligence contributed to the collapse that claimed the life of the young worker.
