RSS – Outreach to Minority Families Expands in Kerala Before Assembly Polls

RSS – The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has intensified its efforts to connect with minority communities in Kerala as political activity in the state gradually builds ahead of the next Assembly elections. According to individuals associated with the organisation, volunteers have recently visited thousands of Muslim and Christian households across different districts, where they say the interactions have been cordial and constructive.

Organisational leaders believe the initiative is part of a wider effort to strengthen dialogue with various sections of society while expanding the Sangh’s presence in regions where political and social dynamics remain complex.

Outreach Efforts Discussed at National Meeting

The outreach programme was among the topics reviewed during the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha, the organisation’s highest decision-making body. The meeting took place in Samalkha in Haryana and was inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat along with senior office-bearer Dattatreya Hosabale and other leaders.

During discussions, members examined the progress of several activities planned as part of the organisation’s centenary year, which includes programmes aimed at strengthening grassroots engagement across India.

Nationwide Contact Campaign Reaches Millions

Addressing reporters after the meeting, RSS Sah-Sarkaryavah C. R. Mukund spoke about the scale of the Sangh’s nationwide outreach initiative known as the Home Contact Campaign. He said the programme has reached more than 10 crore households and covered approximately 3.9 lakh villages across the country.

Mukund highlighted Kerala as one of the states where volunteers have conducted extensive door-to-door visits. According to figures shared by the organisation, more than 55,000 Muslim families and over 54,000 Christian households in the state have been contacted through the campaign.

He described the initiative as an attempt to build communication with communities and explain the organisation’s broader social initiatives.

Focus on Five Key Social Themes

The outreach work is also linked to what the organisation calls the Five Transformations, or Panch-Parivartan. These themes form the social framework guiding several activities during the centenary year.

The five areas include promoting social harmony among communities, encouraging environmental responsibility, supporting locally rooted economic practices often referred to as Swadeshi, strengthening family values, and increasing awareness of civic responsibilities.

Mukund said the organisation believes these principles can contribute to long-term social stability and cooperation across communities.

Centenary Year Programmes Underway

The RSS leadership explained that the centenary celebrations involve two broad categories of activities. One set of programmes focuses on expanding the organisation’s structure and volunteer network, while the other aims to bring together individuals and groups seen as contributing positively to society.

In many regions, new shakhas, or local training and activity branches, have been established in both urban and rural areas. Leaders say these centres help volunteers organise community programmes and social initiatives.

Large-Scale Community Gatherings

Apart from direct household outreach, the organisation has also held public gatherings and conferences in multiple parts of the country. According to Mukund, Hindu community conferences have taken place at more than 36,000 locations ranging from major cities to remote tribal regions.

Participants at these events, he said, have expressed interest in engaging with discussions about cultural identity, social cooperation, and national development.

Comments on National Developments

During the media interaction, RSS representatives also commented on developments in other parts of the country. Mukund welcomed steps taken by the government to encourage peace and development in areas previously affected by Naxal-related violence.

He also referred to improvements in the security situation in Manipur, expressing hope that stability in the region would continue.

In addition, the organisation voiced concern about the condition of Hindu communities in Bangladesh, with Mukund stating that he hopes circumstances for them improve in the future.

Centenary Celebrations to Continue Until 2026

The RSS centenary celebrations began on 2 October 2025 in Nagpur, where former President Ram Nath Kovind attended the opening event. The commemorative programmes are scheduled to continue across the country until October 2026.

Other RSS office-bearers, including Akhil Bharatiya Sah Prachar Pramukh Narendra Thakur and senior functionary Pradeep Joshi, were also present during the media briefing held after the Samalkha meeting.
