Incident Occurs During Disembarkation
The injured passenger, identified as Deepak Adoni, had just arrived on an Air India Express flight from Bengaluru. According to reports, he was among the first travelers stepping out of the aircraft when the incident took place. After taking only a few steps inside the aerobridge, a large aluminum panel suddenly came loose from the ceiling and fell directly onto his head.
Adoni later recounted that he did not immediately understand what had happened. He instinctively grabbed a nearby railing to maintain balance after being hit.
Immediate Response and Assistance
A fellow passenger, Zainab Sayed, who was walking behind him, quickly responded to the situation. She reportedly raised an alarm and stayed with Adoni as he leaned against the wall, struggling to regain composure. Her timely reaction ensured that attention was drawn to the incident, though formal medical assistance reportedly took close to 30 minutes to arrive.
Adoni was eventually transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further examination.
Medical Findings and Condition
At the hospital, doctors conducted a CT scan, which revealed multiple concerns, including degenerative changes in the cervical spine, disc bulges across several levels, and minor head trauma. It remains unclear whether the spinal issues were pre-existing or triggered by the impact.
Adoni shared that his condition worsened shortly after the incident. Within half an hour, he began experiencing dizziness, difficulty speaking, and temporary memory loss, including an inability to recall his own name during hospital admission procedures.
Further tests, including an MRI scan, were conducted as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
Challenges During Treatment
During medical observation, Adoni reportedly found it difficult to stand without support. He described episodes of severe vertigo, stating that even while seated, he felt the room spinning around him. Medical staff provided continuous assistance throughout the evaluation process.
Doctors advised him to wear a neck brace and prescribed medication to manage pain in the neck and head.
Support from Fellow Passenger
Adoni expressed gratitude toward Zainab Sayed, who accompanied him in the ambulance and helped communicate with his family in the United States. He described her as exceptionally supportive during a critical moment.
Airport Response and Investigation
Airport authorities issued a statement expressing regret over the incident. They confirmed that emergency response teams attended to the passenger promptly and ensured his transfer to a hospital for detailed medical checks.
Officials maintained that initial assessments indicated no severe or life-threatening injuries. After completing necessary tests and observation, Adoni was discharged the following day.
The authorities also stated that maintenance teams have since carried out a thorough inspection of aerobridge ceiling panels to prevent similar incidents in the future.
