Rohini Building Collapse – Death Toll Rises to Three in Delhi
Rohini Building Collapse – Three people have died after an under-construction four-storey building collapsed in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area, officials said on Thursday. Rescue teams recovered two additional bodies from the debris during an overnight operation that began shortly after the structure came down amid heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening.

The search operation has now been completed, although Delhi Fire Service personnel remained at the location as a precaution. Five people were taken out from the rubble during the rescue effort, including three recovered by fire department teams.
Rescue teams complete overnight search
Two people pulled out by Delhi Fire Service crews were declared dead after they were brought out of the collapsed structure. A third survivor was injured and taken to hospital for treatment, according to fire department officials.
Before emergency responders arrived, residents from the surrounding area managed to remove another person from the debris. That individual was later declared dead at the hospital.
Officials said the operation involved a coordinated effort by several agencies, with rescue workers using heavy equipment to remove concrete slabs, steel bars and other debris. The incident drew a large response from the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Revenue Department and other emergency units.
Collapse reported near MCD school in Sector 16
The building collapsed at around 4.20 pm on Wednesday near properties G-4/152 and G-4/153, close to an MCD school in Rohini Sector 16. Rainfall in the area was reported around the time of the incident.
Authorities worked through the night to ensure that no one remained trapped beneath the wreckage. The site was carefully searched as teams removed damaged portions of the building and inspected the debris layer by layer.
The structure was still under construction when it collapsed. Civic officials are now examining whether work being carried out inside the building may have weakened key parts of the structure.
Civic body examines possible structural damage
A preliminary assessment by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi indicated that plumbing work was underway at the site before the collapse. Officials said drilling or cutting activity involving structural components, including beams and columns, may have played a role in the failure.
The civic body stressed that the exact reason for the collapse has not yet been confirmed. A detailed technical review will be required to determine whether construction activity, design issues, material quality or other factors contributed to the incident.
Experts are expected to examine the damaged structure, construction records and the condition of the surrounding portions of the site as part of the assessment.
Police launch inquiry into building approvals
Delhi Police have opened an investigation into the collapse and will examine whether the project followed approved construction plans and safety requirements. The inquiry will also look into the quality of construction, any changes made to the structure and the responsibility of people connected with the project.
Investigators are expected to review documents related to the building’s sanction plan and identify whether any unauthorised alterations were carried out during construction. Officials will also assess whether safety norms were followed while work was taking place inside the building.
The incident has renewed attention on construction safety and monitoring of under-construction buildings in densely populated parts of Delhi. Authorities have said further action will depend on the findings of the technical examination and police investigation.
