Gurgaon Rain – Heavy Downpour Disrupts Traffic and Floods Key Roads
Gurgaon Rain – Gurgaon faced another difficult day on Thursday after more than 33 mm of rain fell within three hours, causing widespread waterlogging and long traffic delays across several major roads. The heavy spell, which began in the afternoon, left commuters navigating flooded streets for the second day in a row.

Waterlogging Hits Major Junctions
The worst impact was reported around Atul Kataria Chowk, Sikanderpur near the Rapid Metro corridor, Sohna Road close to Omaxe Mall, and Narsinghpur. Vehicles moved slowly through standing water, while several internal roads saw long queues as traffic backed up during the evening hours.
At Atul Kataria Chowk, cars and other vehicles struggled to pass through heavily flooded lanes. In Sikanderpur, two-wheeler riders were seen trying to cross waterlogged stretches near the Rapid Metro station, where water had accumulated on parts of the road.
Sohna Road and NH-48 Face Traffic Pressure
Flooding on Sohna Road reportedly extended towards the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link road, adding pressure to one of the city’s busy travel corridors. Traffic movement was also affected near Narsinghpur, where a portion of the NH-48 stretch was reported to have caved in amid the rain.
The damage and water accumulation narrowed the available road space, leading to slower movement for vehicles travelling towards Delhi and other nearby areas. Motorists faced delays on both main roads and connecting routes as authorities worked to manage traffic flow.
Residents Share Updates From Flooded Roads
Several commuters used social media to report traffic congestion from different parts of Gurgaon. Posts showed bumper-to-bumper traffic on internal roads, with many residents saying that rainwater had not drained from key intersections even hours after the downpour.
People travelling by two-wheelers appeared to face the greatest difficulty, as water levels in some areas reached ankle depth. Many commuters were forced to take longer routes or wait for traffic to clear before continuing their journey.
The repeated waterlogging has once again raised concerns over drainage capacity in parts of the city, especially during short but intense monsoon spells. Thursday’s rain followed similar disruption earlier in the week, when several roads were affected by standing water and traffic jams.
Police Advisory Remains Relevant
Earlier this week, Gurgaon Police had advised corporate offices to allow employees to work from home from July 7 because of the possibility of waterlogging at important intersections and main roads.
Officials said the advisory remains relevant as rain activity continued on Thursday. Residents have been urged to avoid non-essential travel, particularly through low-lying underpasses and locations known to flood during heavy rainfall.
Commuters have also been advised to check road conditions before leaving home and avoid entering submerged stretches, as waterlogged roads can hide potholes, damaged surfaces and other hazards.
Employees Seek Extended Work-From-Home Support
The continuing disruption has prompted calls for companies to maintain flexible work arrangements during the monsoon period. Rohit Gupta, a software developer from Greater Noida who works in Gurgaon, said employers should consider extending work-from-home options while road conditions remain uncertain.
For many office-goers, the daily commute has become increasingly unpredictable because rain can quickly lead to traffic congestion on key routes. Employees travelling from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and other nearby areas are among those affected by the repeated delays.
With the monsoon season still active, civic agencies and traffic police are expected to remain on alert for further waterlogging and road-related disruptions. Residents have been advised to follow official traffic updates and plan their travel carefully during periods of heavy rain.
