Separate Crowd Incident Reported in Ranchi
In another recent development in Jharkhand, several spectators were injured during the final match of the Jharkhand T20 League at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on June 23 after an unexpectedly large crowd gathered for the event.
Officials said public entry for the final was free, attracting far more spectators than anticipated. As the stadium approached capacity, entry gates were closed, leaving many people waiting outside. The situation quickly became tense as some spectators attempted to climb gates and boundary walls in an effort to enter, resulting in a stampede-like situation.
Security Measures Restored Order
The injured spectators were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Senior police officers, including Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan, reached the venue to supervise the response while additional security personnel were deployed to restore order.
Speaking to reporters, the SSP explained that only one gate had been opened for public entry, and the security screening process slowed the movement of spectators. As pressure built outside the stadium, the crowd briefly became difficult to manage before police successfully brought the situation under control.
Officials stated that four to five people sustained injuries during the incident and are currently receiving treatment. They added that normal conditions were restored shortly after police intervention.
Eyewitnesses Raise Crowd Management Concerns
Several eyewitnesses questioned the event’s crowd management arrangements, alleging that the limited number of entry gates contributed to heavy congestion. According to those present, the growing crowd eventually led to confusion as people attempted to push through restricted entry points.
Authorities have not announced any further action regarding the stadium incident, while investigations into both events continue.
