Rainfall – Delhi Sees Moderate Showers as Humidity Eases Across the Capital

Rainfall –  Moderate rainfall swept across several parts of Delhi on Sunday, offering temporary relief from the city’s sticky and uncomfortable weather. Official observations showed that Chhatarpur received the highest rainfall, measuring 49 mm by 2.30 pm, as rain-bearing clouds covered much of the national capital.

Chhatarpur Records Highest Rainfall in Delhi

According to data released by the India Meteorological Department, Mehrauli received 18 mm of rain, while Najafgarh recorded 8 mm. Janakpuri also witnessed showers, with 7 mm of rainfall reported during the same period. The rain varied in intensity across different localities, with some areas receiving steady showers and others seeing brief spells.

Delhi’s minimum temperature was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 degrees above the normal level for this time of year. Despite the rain, the city continued to experience warm and humid conditions during the morning hours.

Cloudy Conditions Expected Through the Day

The weather department forecast a generally cloudy sky over Delhi, along with moderate rainfall in several parts of the city during the day. The maximum temperature was expected to reach around 36 degrees Celsius.

Humidity remained high, with relative humidity recorded at 77 per cent at 8.30 am. The combination of moisture in the air and intermittent rain continued to influence weather conditions across the capital and nearby areas.

Delhi Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category

Delhi’s air quality stayed in the moderate range on Sunday. The Air Quality Index was recorded at 162 at 3.33 pm, according to data available on the Sameer app.

The Central Pollution Control Board categorises AQI levels between 101 and 200 as moderate. Under this category, air quality may cause minor breathing discomfort for people who are sensitive to pollution, while conditions are generally considered manageable for most residents.

Saturday Showers Lowered Daytime Temperature

The latest rainfall came a day after light to moderate showers were reported in several parts of Delhi on Saturday. At Safdarjung, the city’s main weather station, the maximum temperature settled at 35.4 degrees Celsius.

The temperature was two degrees below the seasonal average and 0.4 degrees lower than Friday’s reading. Safdarjung did not record rainfall until 5.30 pm on Saturday, although other stations in the city received measurable precipitation.

Pusa and Janakpuri Receive Rainfall on Saturday

The Pusa weather station recorded 23.5 mm of rain between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm on Saturday. During the same period, Janakpuri received 9.5 mm of rainfall.

Pitampura reported a smaller spell later in the afternoon, with 0.5 mm of rain recorded between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm. These showers contributed to a slight reduction in daytime heat, although humidity remained noticeable across Delhi.

NCR Areas Also Witness Rainfall Activity

Rainfall was also reported in parts of the National Capital Region on Sunday. Gurugram received 35 mm of precipitation by 2.30 pm, while Greater Noida recorded 17 mm.

In contrast, several areas of Haryana and Punjab continued to face hot and sultry conditions. Sirsa recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius, while Bathinda registered 40.3 degrees Celsius, highlighting the uneven weather pattern across north India.
