PowerOutage – Scheduled Maintenance Work to Affect Electricity Supply Across Kanpur Areas
PowerOutage – Residents in several parts of Kanpur are set to face temporary electricity disruptions on June 17 as the Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) carries out planned maintenance and infrastructure upgrade work. The scheduled shutdowns will impact multiple localities linked to five power substations, with officials stating that the interruptions are necessary to strengthen the city’s power distribution network and ensure safer operations.

RMU Installation Work in Residential Areas
As part of ongoing system enhancement efforts, Ring Main Unit (RMU) installation work will be undertaken in Ambedkarpuram and Satyam Vihar. Due to the project, electricity supply in both localities will remain suspended from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. KESCO has advised residents to plan their daily activities accordingly and take necessary precautions during the outage period.
Similarly, consumers living in Old Gujaini and New Gujaini will experience a power shutdown between 9:00 am and 11:30 am. Officials said the interruption is also linked to RMU installation work aimed at improving power distribution reliability in the area.
CM Grid Project to Impact Multiple Localities
Several neighbourhoods connected to the CM Grid Project will also witness temporary power cuts. Electricity supply in Devki Nagar, Kachchi Basti, Y-1 Block, Y-Block in Kidwai Nagar, and the area surrounding Aarti Sweet House is scheduled to remain unavailable from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
According to KESCO, the work forms part of broader infrastructure modernization efforts designed to improve the efficiency of the electricity network. Authorities emphasized that the shutdowns have been planned to allow technical teams to complete essential tasks safely and without disruption to workers.
Longer Shutdowns in North Feeder and Govind Nagar
Apart from the shorter maintenance outages, a few areas will face extended power interruptions. Consumers connected to the North Feeder network and parts of South Govind Nagar are expected to remain without electricity from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.
In another scheduled operation, power supply in Bidur will be affected from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The outage has been planned to facilitate 11 KV reconductoring work, which involves upgrading electrical lines to improve transmission performance and reduce technical losses.
KESCO officials have requested public cooperation during the maintenance activities, noting that the projects are part of a larger effort to enhance service quality and strengthen the city’s power infrastructure.
Drive Against Electricity Theft Continues
Alongside maintenance operations, KESCO has intensified its campaign against electricity theft. During an inspection conducted on June 16 in areas connected to the Deputy Padav substation, officials identified three cases of unauthorized power consumption.
The violations were reportedly detected at a residence in Dalel Purwa and at locations in the EWS Awas Vikas-3 colony of Kalyanpur. Authorities named Adarsh Srivastava and Sunil Srivastava among those allegedly involved in the illegal use of electricity.
KESCO media spokesperson Devendra Verma stated that instructions have been issued for the registration of FIRs against the individuals found violating electricity regulations. The department said strict action will continue against power theft to protect revenue and ensure fair distribution of electricity to legitimate consumers.
