Politics – TMC Rift Deepens as Leaders Trade Sharp Public Remarks
Politics – Fresh tensions within the ruling Trinamool Congress have surfaced after a public exchange involving senior party figures, drawing reactions from opposition leaders and highlighting growing concerns over internal differences within the organization.

BJP Responds to Kalyan Banerjee’s Statements
Speaking to journalists in Kolkata, West Bengal minister and BJP leader Arjun Singh strongly criticized Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee over his recent comments concerning Abhishek Banerjee. Singh said the BJP does not attach much importance to Kalyan Banerjee’s remarks and suggested that the statements were influenced by personal dissatisfaction amid ongoing political developments within the TMC.
According to Singh, Kalyan Banerjee has been expressing frustration for some time and is attempting to strengthen his political standing during a period of uncertainty inside the party. He alleged that the MP’s recent comments reflected internal disagreements rather than broader political concerns.
Personal Frustration Behind Comments, Says Singh
Continuing his criticism, Arjun Singh claimed that Kalyan Banerjee’s statements should not be viewed as politically significant. He argued that the TMC leader was seeking attention at a time when internal challenges were becoming more visible within the party.
The BJP leader further stated that many people in West Bengal do not take Kalyan Banerjee’s political interventions seriously. In his remarks, Singh used strong language to dismiss the TMC MP’s influence in the state’s political landscape.
Dispute Emerges Over Legal Representation
The controversy gained momentum after Kalyan Banerjee publicly expressed his displeasure regarding developments in a signature forgery case involving Abhishek Banerjee. Kalyan, who had previously represented Abhishek in the matter, objected to the appointment of another lawyer, claiming the decision was made without consulting him.
His criticism brought internal party differences into the public domain and sparked fresh discussion about relations among senior TMC leaders.
Ultimatum to Party Leadership
In a significant escalation, Kalyan Banerjee reportedly urged Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee to make a choice between him and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. The statement attracted considerable political attention, as Kalyan has long been regarded as a loyal supporter of the party leadership.
He also accused Abhishek Banerjee of displaying arrogance and suggested that ongoing divisions within the party were linked to his conduct. The remarks added another layer to the growing debate over leadership dynamics inside the TMC.
Abhishek Banerjee Seeks to Ease Tensions
Responding to the controversy, Abhishek Banerjee adopted a conciliatory tone and sought to minimize speculation about a major internal conflict. He emphasized that Kalyan Banerjee is a senior leader who is entitled to express his opinions freely.
Abhishek also highlighted their long-standing personal relationship, noting that Kalyan had known him since childhood. He made it clear that he would avoid making any negative comments against the veteran leader despite the recent criticism.
Internal Challenges Continue for TMC
The latest exchange comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress is dealing with reports of factional differences and organizational challenges. The party has recently faced questions over internal unity, particularly following the departure of several Rajya Sabha members.
Political observers believe that public disagreements among senior leaders could intensify scrutiny of the party’s internal functioning in the coming months. While the TMC leadership has attempted to project stability, recent developments suggest that managing internal relationships remains a significant challenge.
