Concerns Over Election Violence in West Bengal

Speaking about the situation in West Bengal, Maliwal said that troubling scenes have become a familiar feature during elections in the state. According to her, such incidents are not limited to a single phase or election cycle but appear repeatedly whenever polls are held.

She argued that these developments point to a deeper issue, suggesting that an environment of fear and intimidation has taken root. Maliwal claimed that this atmosphere could influence voter behaviour and ultimately shape electoral outcomes.

Allegations Against TMC Leadership

Maliwal accused the ruling party in West Bengal of encouraging what she described as aggressive tactics on the ground. She alleged that these actions have contributed to growing dissatisfaction among voters, which could benefit opposition parties in the long run.

Her remarks reflect ongoing political tensions in the state, where allegations of electoral misconduct have frequently been raised by rival parties during past elections as well.

Criticism of AAP’s Election Strategy

Turning her attention to the Aam Aadmi Party, Maliwal questioned its approach to the electoral process. She criticised the party for opting out of participation in certain elections, suggesting that such decisions weaken democratic engagement.

Referring to AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, she made a pointed remark about his leadership style, implying that withdrawing from contests when facing potential losses sends the wrong message to voters.

Reaction to ‘Satyagraha’ Reference

Maliwal also commented on Kejriwal’s recent communication with a Delhi High Court judge and his use of the term ‘Satyagraha’. She expressed doubt about the appropriateness of invoking such a concept in this context.

According to her, the idea of Satyagraha carries a moral foundation and historical significance that should not be diluted. She suggested that using it in political disputes without clear justification risks undermining its meaning.

Defence of Judiciary and Women Judges

In her remarks, Maliwal extended support to Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, highlighting the challenges faced by women in the judiciary. She pointed out that women judges often reach their positions after overcoming significant obstacles, and any attempt to question their integrity should be approached with caution.

She emphasised the importance of maintaining respect for judicial institutions, adding that personal attacks against members of the judiciary can harm public trust.

Response to Personal Remarks in Politics

Maliwal also addressed comments made by AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj concerning Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and actor Parineeti Chopra. She described such statements as inappropriate, stressing that personal lives should not become a subject of political debate.

She further noted that such remarks not only affect individuals directly involved but also reflect poorly on the overall tone of political discourse.

Allegations of Personal Attacks

Recalling her own experience, Maliwal alleged that she had faced abusive language and personal criticism when she raised issues publicly. She claimed that such behaviour highlights a broader pattern within political exchanges, where personal attacks sometimes overshadow substantive discussions.

She concluded by saying that political parties should focus on governance and constructive dialogue rather than engaging in personal criticism, as this ultimately shapes public perception of leadership.
