Politics – Suvendu Adhikari Set to Lead West Bengal After BJP Victory
Politics – West Bengal is preparing for a major political change as senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari is ready to take oath as the state’s first BJP Chief Minister at a large public ceremony in Kolkata. The development comes after the BJP secured a decisive mandate in the recently concluded Assembly elections, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

Leaders Call It a Historic Political Moment
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan described the occasion as an important moment for the state and linked it to the legacy of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, one of the founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a former member of India’s Constituent Assembly.
Speaking on Saturday, Pradhan said the timing of the event carried cultural and political importance as it coincided with the birth anniversary celebrations of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. He noted that people from different parts of Bengal had gathered to witness the ceremony and expressed confidence that the new administration would focus on development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Suvendu Adhikari.
Support From NDA Leaders
Bihar minister Ram Kripal Yadav also congratulated Adhikari and said the election outcome reflected the desire for political and developmental change in West Bengal. He stated that the incoming Chief Minister would likely prioritize infrastructure, governance, and economic progress in the state.
According to BJP leaders, the election result represents one of the party’s most significant achievements in eastern India. Party supporters have described the transition as a turning point after years of rule by the Trinamool Congress.
Grand Oath Ceremony Planned in Kolkata
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place at the historic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata and is expected to witness the attendance of several senior BJP and NDA leaders.
Among those likely to be present are Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national leadership members, Union ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states. The event is being viewed by party workers as a landmark occasion for the BJP in West Bengal.
Adhikari’s Electoral Success Strengthened BJP Position
Suvendu Adhikari emerged as one of the key faces of the BJP campaign during the Assembly elections. He secured victories from both Nandigram and Bhabanipur Assembly constituencies, strengthening his position within the party leadership in the state.
His victory from Bhabanipur drew particular attention because the constituency had long been associated with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Political analysts believe the result significantly boosted BJP morale during the election season.
BJP Legislature Party Chose Adhikari as Leader
A day before the swearing-in ceremony, Amit Shah formally announced Suvendu Adhikari as the BJP Legislature Party leader during a meeting with newly elected party MLAs. The decision confirmed Adhikari as the party’s choice for the chief minister’s post.
The BJP’s rise in West Bengal follows the Assembly election results declared on May 4. The outcome ended the long-standing dominance of the Trinamool Congress and opened a new chapter in the state’s politics.
Political observers believe the coming months will be crucial as the new government begins outlining its priorities for governance, administration, and development in West Bengal.
