Politics – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday underscored his government’s focus on women-centric policies, noting that the very first decision he took after assuming office was to introduce free bus travel for women. Speaking at a public gathering in Salem, he said the move symbolized his administration’s broader commitment to improving the lives of women across the state.
Focus on Women-Centric Governance
Addressing supporters, Stalin emphasized that his government remains determined to expand benefits aimed at women’s welfare. He stated that financial considerations would not limit initiatives designed to uplift women, adding that ensuring access to opportunities and support systems remains a key priority.
He also highlighted that such measures are intended to strengthen the socio-economic standing of women, particularly those from economically weaker sections. According to him, policies like free public transport not only reduce daily expenses but also encourage greater participation of women in education and employment.

He also shared a personal anecdote about being invited to join the Dravidian movement in his younger years, noting that his current presence in the political space marks a new phase in his journey. Haasan pointed out that the large turnout at the rally, which he said crossed 30,000 attendees, was managed without any disruption, calling it a sign of disciplined public participation.

Meanwhile, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Premalatha Vijayakant also addressed the gathering, offering a mix of praise and political critique. She commended Stalin for maintaining cohesion within his alliance, suggesting that managing differing viewpoints among partners requires steady leadership.
At the same time, she took aim at rival alliances, particularly questioning their ability to handle internal differences effectively.
