Politics – Mamata Banerjee Calls Strategy Session After Bengal Poll Outcome
Politics – Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has scheduled a key meeting with the party’s newly elected legislators as the organisation prepares to function as the principal opposition force in the state following the recent Assembly elections.

The meeting, set to take place on Tuesday afternoon, will include around 80 elected MLAs from the party. Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee is also expected to attend the discussion, which party insiders describe as crucial for shaping the next phase of political strategy.
Focus on Opposition Role in the Assembly
According to a party legislator familiar with the preparations, the gathering will largely focus on how the party plans to counter the new state administration both inside and outside the Assembly. Leaders are also expected to discuss organisational coordination and ways to maintain influence across civic bodies that are still under Trinamool Congress control.
The legislator, who requested anonymity, said concerns have grown within the party regarding what it describes as administrative non-cooperation from sections of the bureaucracy after the change in political leadership in the state.
KMC Notices Become Major Political Talking Point
The meeting comes at a time when the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued notices to several properties allegedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee. These notices were served under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act, 1980, which gives property owners an opportunity to appear before civic authorities and explain their position regarding alleged illegal construction.
Reports indicate that notices were pasted outside 17 properties located within areas governed by the civic body. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation continues to be led by Mayor Firhad Hakim, a senior Trinamool Congress leader and former minister in the Mamata Banerjee cabinet.
Political observers note that the development has intensified tensions between the ruling administration and the opposition party.
Suvendu Adhikari’s Remarks Trigger Debate
The controversy gained further attention after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari recently referred to properties allegedly connected to a company linked with Abhishek Banerjee while addressing a public event in Falta in South 24 Parganas district.
Although Adhikari avoided directly naming the Trinamool Congress leader, he referred to him indirectly as “Mr Nephew” during his speech. The Chief Minister claimed he had obtained a list of multiple properties connected to the company from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
The remarks quickly became a subject of political discussion across the state, with Trinamool Congress leaders accusing the government of targeting opposition figures.
State Government Signals Tough Action
On Monday, Adhikari reiterated that his administration intends to pursue legal action in cases linked to alleged corruption during the previous Trinamool Congress government. Speaking to reporters, he said the state cabinet remains committed to investigating what he described as misuse of public funds under the earlier regime.
The Chief Minister also announced the formation of two separate inquiry commissions headed by retired judges of the Calcutta High Court.
One panel, led by retired Justice Biswajit Basu, will examine cases related to alleged institutional corruption. The second commission, headed by retired Justice Samapti Chattopadhyay, has been assigned to investigate matters concerning crimes against women.
According to the Chief Minister, both commissions are expected to begin functioning from June. The state government believes these inquiries will help bring greater accountability and transparency to the administration.
Political Atmosphere Intensifies in Bengal
The latest developments have sharpened the political divide in West Bengal as both the ruling government and the Trinamool Congress prepare for a prolonged confrontation over governance, corruption allegations, and administrative control.
For the Trinamool Congress leadership, Tuesday’s meeting is likely to serve as an important platform to consolidate its legislative strategy and prepare for aggressive opposition politics in the coming months.
