NDA – Parliamentary Meeting Highlights Trade Agreements and New Allies’ Participation
NDA – The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party held its weekly meeting at the Parliament House complex on Tuesday, bringing together Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Union ministers, and alliance lawmakers for discussions on key national issues. The session, known as Mangal Milan, also marked the first participation of Members of Parliament who recently joined the Nationalist Congress Party of India (NCPI) after leaving the Trinamool Congress.
Focus on Trade Agreements and Economic Priorities
The meeting centered on India’s expanding network of free trade agreements and their expected impact on economic growth, exports, and investment. According to participants, the discussions offered lawmakers a detailed overview of the government’s approach to strengthening international trade partnerships while safeguarding domestic interests.
NCPI Member of Parliament Sayoni Ghosh described the interaction as both informative and constructive. She said the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the session particularly valuable and noted that extensive discussions were held on free trade agreements. She added that the exchange of views reflected a positive and forward-looking approach.
Support Expressed for Anti-Paper Leak Legislation
Speaking after the meeting, Sayoni Ghosh also voiced support for the proposed legislation aimed at curbing examination-related malpractices. She appealed for backing the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, which was scheduled to come up for discussion in Parliament later in the day.
The proposed law is intended to strengthen measures against paper leaks and other unfair practices in public examinations. The legislation has been presented as part of the government’s broader effort to improve transparency and fairness in recruitment and academic assessment processes.
Newly Inducted NCPI MPs Attend NDA Gathering
The event was significant for another reason as it welcomed lawmakers who recently shifted from the Trinamool Congress to the NCPI. Their participation reflected their formal integration into the NDA’s parliamentary activities following their induction into the party.
The newly inducted MPs reaffirmed their support for the NDA and expressed their commitment to working with the alliance on legislative and policy matters. Their attendance highlighted the evolving political landscape within Parliament and the growing engagement of new alliance members.
Discussions Included Farmers and National Development
NCPI MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar said the meeting was the first occasion on which all 20 NCPI Members of Parliament had been invited to participate in the NDA’s Mangal Milan programme. She said the discussions extended beyond trade policy and also covered issues linked to agriculture and the country’s overall development.
According to her, the presentations included detailed information and supporting data that would help lawmakers better communicate government initiatives to people in their respective constituencies. She noted that the briefing would enable MPs to explain the significance of policy decisions and development programmes with greater clarity.
Alliance Coordination Continues During Parliament Session
The regular NDA parliamentary meetings are designed to improve coordination among alliance partners during Parliament sessions and keep lawmakers informed about the government’s legislative priorities. Tuesday’s gathering combined policy discussions with political coordination, providing members an opportunity to understand upcoming legislative business and exchange views on national issues.
