Leaders Highlight Party Ideology and Growth

In a message shared on social media platform X, Bhupendra Patel described the Bharatiya Janata Party as more than a political body, calling it a movement rooted in nationalism, public welfare, and effective governance. He extended greetings to party workers, acknowledging their role in building the organisation over decades. According to him, the party’s guiding principle of “Nation First” continues to shape its policies and actions.

He further noted that the BJP’s evolution from its early ideological foundations to its present stature has been driven by the dedication of countless workers. Patel referred to the contributions of early leaders whose ideas laid the groundwork for what has now become a major political force in India.

Vision for Development and National Progress

The Chief Minister also spoke about the current direction of the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He stated that India is witnessing rapid progress across sectors due to coordinated efforts between the government and citizens. Emphasising long-term goals, Patel said that party workers remain committed to contributing towards the vision of a developed India by the year 2047.

He added that the party’s organisational strength has played a crucial role in shaping India’s position on the global stage. According to Patel, this collective effort will continue to support the country’s aspirations of becoming one of the leading developed nations in the coming decades.

Historical Roots of the Party

The Bharatiya Janata Party traces its origins to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which was established in 1950. The organisation was founded by Syama Prasad Mookerjee along with Deendayal Upadhyaya, who introduced ideological principles that continue to influence the party’s direction.

Following the Emergency period in India, the Jana Sangh merged into the Janata Party in 1977 with the aim of presenting a unified opposition. However, internal disagreements later emerged, particularly regarding the issue of dual membership involving the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. These differences eventually led to a split, after which former Jana Sangh members formally established the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 6, 1980.

Electoral Milestones and Leadership

Since its formation, the BJP has grown significantly in electoral strength. The party became the largest in Parliament during the Lok Sabha elections of 1996, 1998, and 1999. Over time, it consolidated its position as a major national force.

The party has had two Prime Ministers—Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi—both of whom played key roles in expanding its reach and influence. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP secured 303 seats in the Lok Sabha, marking its strongest performance to date.

Continuing Organisational Expansion

The foundation day celebrations across the country served as an opportunity for party leaders to reaffirm their commitment to organisational growth and public service. In Gujarat, the event highlighted both the party’s historical journey and its future ambitions, with leaders stressing the importance of grassroots participation in achieving national development goals.
