Politics – BJP Leadership Engages in Talks Amid Tamil Nadu Unit Differences
Politics – Fresh discussions within the Bharatiya Janata Party have drawn attention after former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai met senior party leader Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting has sparked speculation about efforts underway to address internal differences and prevent a possible departure by the former state chief.

According to party sources, Annamalai has not yet formally submitted his resignation despite reportedly expressing his dissatisfaction to the national leadership. Senior leaders are understood to have requested him to reconsider his decision, keeping the door open for further dialogue.
Delhi Meetings Gain Importance
At the same time, Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran was called to the national capital for consultations with the party’s central leadership. Sources indicated that discussions were expected to focus on resolving ongoing concerns within the state unit and restoring coordination among key leaders.
The developments come at a time when the BJP is seeking to strengthen its position in Tamil Nadu ahead of future political challenges. Party leaders are believed to be working toward a solution that would maintain unity within the organisation.
Annamalai Raises Concerns With Central Leaders
During his interaction with Amit Shah, Annamalai reportedly spoke in detail about disagreements that had persisted within the Tamil Nadu BJP following changes in the state leadership structure. His removal as state president in 2025 was widely viewed as part of the party’s broader strategy to improve relations with the AIADMK.
Sources familiar with the discussions said Annamalai conveyed his concerns regarding the functioning of the state unit and the circumstances that led to growing differences over the past several months.
Decision on Future Yet to Be Finalised
Individuals aware of the matter said Annamalai had been prepared to step away from his current role and return to Chennai once his resignation was accepted. However, he intended to maintain cordial relations with the BJP’s national leadership despite any decision regarding his future.
Following requests from senior leaders to reconsider, a final decision has reportedly been put on hold. Sources suggested that he could return to Chennai on June 4 while discussions continue.
Preference for Tamil Nadu Politics
Party insiders also indicated that Annamalai was offered opportunities at the national level, including a possible Rajya Sabha nomination and a ministerial position. However, he is believed to have declined those options, expressing a preference to remain active in Tamil Nadu politics.
His stance has reinforced perceptions among supporters that his political focus remains firmly rooted in the state, where he has built a significant presence within the BJP over recent years.
Supporters React to Exit Reports
Before meeting Amit Shah, Annamalai held discussions with BJP national general secretary B. L. Santhosh and later met party president Nitin Nabin. These meetings were seen as part of ongoing efforts to assess the situation and explore a resolution.
Meanwhile, reports of his possible exit triggered reactions from several district-level functionaries considered close to him. Sources said a number of local leaders submitted resignations after news emerged that Annamalai might leave the party structure.
While no official announcement has been made regarding his future, the series of meetings in Delhi suggests that the BJP leadership is actively working to address concerns and preserve stability within its Tamil Nadu unit
