Congress Leadership Reviews Post-Election Strategy

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi said on Tuesday that the party is evaluating the outcome of the state elections and planning its next course of action. According to him, discussions are being held with senior party members, colleagues, and newly elected MLAs to determine how the opposition should respond to the current political environment in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi stated that the Congress intends to strengthen its role as an opposition force by raising public concerns through meetings, media interactions, and outreach campaigns across Assam. He added that the party would closely monitor the functioning of the government and highlight any shortcomings or administrative failures in the coming months.

Public Expectations Remain High, Says Gogoi

Gogoi noted that many residents of Assam are still disappointed with the election outcome and continue to expect the Congress to represent public interests effectively. He said the party understands the responsibility placed upon it by voters and is preparing to fulfil its duties with greater seriousness.

The Congress leader explained that the review process is also aimed at understanding the reasons behind the party’s performance in the elections. He said the leadership wants to ensure that public voices are carried forward in a constructive and democratic manner.

NDA Secures Strong Majority in Assam Elections

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance recorded a decisive victory in the Assam Assembly elections, securing a third consecutive term in power. In the 126-member Assembly, the alliance won a total of 102 seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark.

Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the dominant force in the election with 82 seats. Its alliance partners, the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front, secured 10 seats each.

On the opposition side, the Congress-led alliance managed to win 19 seats. Regional parties also made limited gains during the election. Raijor Dal and All India United Democratic Front won two seats each, while the All India Trinamool Congress secured one seat. The Assam Jatiya Parishad failed to win any seat in the Assembly polls.

Oath Ceremony in Guwahati Draws National Attention

Meanwhile, preparations are underway in Guwahati for the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government, which is scheduled to take place later today. The event is expected to witness the presence of several senior leaders from across the country.

Among those likely to attend are Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, along with Union ministers and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states.

Political observers believe the ceremony will underline the BJP-led alliance’s continued dominance in Assam politics after securing another comfortable mandate in the state Assembly elections.
