Politics – AIADMK Leader Supports TVK Alliance Amid Growing Party Tensions
Politics – The political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu witnessed another significant development after AIADMK MLA Leema Rose Martin openly supported her party’s partnership with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) while also appreciating several welfare measures introduced by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

Martin addressed reporters on Friday and stated that the alliance between the AIADMK and TVK was established with the interests of Tamil Nadu residents in mind. According to her, the cooperation between the two parties aims to focus on public welfare and long-term social benefits for the people of the state.
Support for Student Welfare Measures
During her interaction with the media, Martin highlighted some of the welfare initiatives introduced by the present government. She referred to the financial assistance being provided to students pursuing higher education and noted that the scheme has offered support to many young people across Tamil Nadu.
She also spoke positively about the “Singa Pen” initiative, stating that the programme has received appreciation from women in different sections of society. Martin indicated that such schemes have strengthened public confidence in the government’s approach toward welfare and social development.
Praise for Closure of TASMAC Shops
One of the major points raised by the AIADMK MLA was the recent shutdown of hundreds of TASMAC liquor outlets across the state. Martin said Chief Minister Joseph Vijay had earlier requested time to implement reforms and has now taken action by closing 717 liquor shops that reportedly violated government regulations.
She described the decision as a positive move and said it reflected the administration’s concern for public welfare. The closures were ordered after authorities identified several liquor outlets operating near sensitive public areas, including schools, religious institutions, and bus stands.
Government Survey Identified Violations
According to official figures released by the Tamil Nadu government, a survey conducted across the state found that 717 TASMAC outlets were functioning within restricted distances from important public locations. Out of the total number, 276 outlets were reportedly located near places of worship, 186 near educational institutions, and 255 close to bus stands.
The government stated that the decision was taken despite TASMAC being a major contributor to state revenue. Officials maintained that public interest and compliance with regulations were the primary reasons behind the closure of the shops.
Efforts to Reunite AIADMK Leaders
Martin also commented on the ongoing divisions within the AIADMK. She said efforts are being made to reconnect leaders who had distanced themselves from the party during the recent internal conflicts.
Her remarks come at a time when tensions within the AIADMK have intensified over disciplinary actions and leadership disagreements. Differences among senior members have become more visible following recent political developments inside the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Internal Dispute Continues in AIADMK
On Friday, senior party leader C V Shanmugam stated that former minister C Vijayabaskar had already been appointed as the official party whip. The statement came amid continuing disagreements between different factions within the AIADMK leadership.
The conflict reportedly deepened after disciplinary proceedings were initiated by the camp led by party General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami. The action targeted certain members accused of not following the party whip during a recent floor test in the Assembly.
Political observers believe the current developments could play an important role in shaping the opposition landscape in Tamil Nadu ahead of future electoral contests. At the same time, discussions surrounding alliances and party unity continue to dominate political conversations in the state.
