Parliament – Rajnath Singh Criticises Street Protests, Urges Opposition to Debate in House
Parliament – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday criticised the Opposition over the ongoing protests in Delhi, saying political disagreements should be addressed through parliamentary discussions instead of demonstrations on the streets. His remarks came a day after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.
Defence Minister Raises Concern Over Protests
Addressing the issue without naming Rahul Gandhi, Rajnath Singh said the recent protests in the national capital were a matter of serious concern. He alleged that some political leaders were attempting to involve students and young people in political campaigns to advance their own interests.
According to Singh, India’s youth should not be drawn into political confrontations. He expressed confidence that young citizens possess the maturity to distinguish between political messaging and genuine efforts aimed at national development. He said the government believes the country’s younger generation would continue to support progress and constructive nation-building.
Government Reaffirms Support for Students
The Defence Minister reiterated that the Narendra Modi-led government remains committed to protecting the interests of students and ensuring that their concerns receive due attention. He said the administration considers it its responsibility to hear the issues affecting young people and work towards appropriate solutions.
Singh also stressed that the government would not allow any injustice against students or youth. Referring to criticism from Opposition parties, he claimed that attempts to create public anger through political campaigns were unlikely to succeed and would only mislead sections of society, particularly younger citizens.
Parliament Described as the Right Forum
Highlighting the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, Rajnath Singh said the government was ready to discuss every important issue through meaningful debate inside the House. He maintained that Parliament remains the appropriate democratic platform where both the government and the Opposition can present their views and seek accountability.
He argued that resolving national issues through parliamentary discussions strengthens democratic institutions, whereas taking political disputes to the streets does not contribute to constructive dialogue.
Appeal to Opposition During Monsoon Session
Calling for cooperation during the current parliamentary session, Singh urged Opposition parties to participate actively in debates instead of disrupting proceedings. He said every issue of public importance could be raised before Parliament, where elected representatives have the opportunity to present their arguments before the nation.
The minister added that if the Opposition genuinely wished to address public concerns, it should make full use of the ongoing Monsoon Session rather than organising protests outside Parliament. According to him, democratic institutions offer the most effective platform for discussing policy matters and resolving differences through debate.
Political Exchange Continues
The latest remarks add to the ongoing political exchange between the ruling National Democratic Alliance government and the Opposition over the handling of public issues and the methods used to raise them. Rahul Gandhi’s protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence has drawn strong reactions from the government, while the Opposition has continued to press its criticism on several matters during the Monsoon Session.
With Parliament currently in session, attention is expected to remain focused on how both sides engage on key national issues inside the House as well as outside it.
