Parliament – The Opposition is set to intensify its protest inside the Parliament complex on Monday as the Monsoon Session enters another crucial day, while the government is expected to continue pursuing its legislative agenda amid growing political disagreements.
Opposition Plans Protest at Parliament
Leaders of several Opposition parties have announced that they will gather at Makar Dwar of Parliament to repeat their demand that Union Home Minister Amit Shah address both Houses over the police action during the July 20 demonstration in New Delhi. Opposition members have consistently sought an official statement from the Home Minister, alleging that protesters were subjected to excessive force during the demonstration.
Apart from the demand for a clarification on the police response, Opposition parties are also expected to bring up the controversy surrounding the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft issue. The matter has become one of the key political flashpoints during the ongoing session, with leaders seeking further discussion inside Parliament.
Fresh Political Debate Expected
The Monsoon Session, now entering its eleventh day, is likely to witness another round of sharp exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches. Members are also expected to discuss the reported attack on Independent MP Pappu Yadav in Delhi on Sunday.
The controversy surrounding Yadav had already attracted attention last week after he criticised the government over the alleged Ram Mandir donation issue by mimicking a priest while collecting donations during a public demonstration. His actions sparked strong political reactions and added to the tensions already prevailing during the session.
Congress Reiterates Demand for Home Minister’s Statement
Congress MP KC Venugopal said the Opposition would continue pressing for an explanation from the Union Home Minister on the issues it has repeatedly raised in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters, Venugopal said he was not aware whether the government intended to introduce the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act Amendment Bill during the current session. He added that the Opposition’s immediate priority remained securing a statement from the Home Minister regarding the alleged lathi-charge and firing involving students during the Delhi protest.
According to him, the Opposition would continue raising these concerns until the government provides an official response in Parliament.
Government Focuses on Legislative Business
On the government’s side, BJP MP Manish Jaiswal stressed that Parliament’s primary responsibility is to conduct legislative work and pass laws that benefit the public. He said that while members have the right to raise issues, parliamentary proceedings should continue according to established rules and procedures.
Jaiswal also accused the Opposition of repeatedly attempting to disrupt the functioning of the House instead of allowing scheduled business to proceed. He maintained that discussions should take place through the parliamentary process rather than through repeated disruptions.
FCRA Amendment Bill May Draw Attention
Political attention is also centred on reports that the Centre could introduce the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act Amendment Bill during the ongoing session. Although there has been no official confirmation regarding its introduction, the possibility has added another layer of anticipation to the day’s proceedings.
If the proposed legislation is tabled, it is expected to trigger extensive debate among political parties, further contributing to an already charged atmosphere inside Parliament.
