Noida Rain – Heavy Overnight Downpour Leaves Key Sectors Waterlogged
Noida Rain – Heavy overnight rain caused widespread waterlogging across Noida on Thursday morning, affecting traffic movement, office commutes and electricity supply in several neighbourhoods. Parts of Sector 16, Sector 18, Sector 62 and Sector 93 remained inundated during peak travel hours, leaving commuters delayed and residents struggling to step outside their homes.

Office commuters face long delays
The rain-hit roads created major problems for people travelling between Noida and Delhi. Several stretches near commercial hubs, including Sectors 16 and 18, witnessed slow-moving traffic as vehicles navigated through accumulated water.
Kumar Surya, a media professional who travelled towards Delhi in the morning, said the journey became difficult because of flooded roads and traffic congestion. He said riding a two-wheeler was particularly challenging, while cab fares rose sharply on app-based platforms.
According to Surya, a ride that usually costs around Rs 110 to Rs 120 was being quoted between Rs 300 and Rs 350. He added that the long traffic queues further extended travel time for office-goers.
Water enters roads near Sector 62 Metro Station
Conditions outside the Noida Sector 62 Metro Station were also difficult for commuters. People were seen walking through waterlogged roads after leaving the station, while water reportedly entered parts of the metro premises as well.
Dia Negi, who was trying to reach her office from the station, said the short distance became difficult to cover because of the flooding. Her workplace, she said, was only a few minutes away on foot, but the rain and water accumulation prevented employees from reaching the office on time.
She added that her organisation allowed staff to work from home in view of the weather conditions. Outside her residential area, several people were seen carrying their footwear and walking with their trousers rolled up to avoid the standing water.
Sector 93 residents report power outage
Residents of some housing societies also faced power supply disruptions after rainwater collected near electrical infrastructure. At Super MIG Express View apartment in Sector 93, residents said the area outside the society had remained flooded since morning.
Rakesh Sharma, a senior citizen living in the society, said the electricity supply was cut off around 6 am and had not been restored properly through the day. He said power briefly returned for a few minutes before failing again, leaving households without electricity for long periods.
Sharma said residents were informed that the local electrical panel box had been submerged in water. According to him, the supply could only be restored after the water level goes down and the equipment becomes safe to access.
Residents raise safety concerns over flooded areas
Another resident, Ranjita, said domestic workers were hesitant to enter the society because of concerns about electrical safety. With the panel box reportedly under water, some workers feared that stagnant water could pose a risk of electric current.
She said there was no pumping arrangement available to remove the accumulated water quickly. Workers from the local authority were attempting to clear the drainage system, but the ongoing rain and blocked flow made the task difficult.
Residents also questioned whether pre-monsoon cleaning of drains had been adequate. Sharma said proper maintenance before the arrival of the rains could have reduced the extent of flooding in the area.
IMD issues weather alerts for NCR
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Delhi on Thursday, warning of extremely heavy rainfall across the national capital. An orange alert was also issued for parts of Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Gurugram.
The alerts advised residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas and locations vulnerable to waterlogging. Authorities are expected to monitor drainage, traffic flow and power infrastructure as rain continues to affect the National Capital Region.
